Gary, I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield of South Carolina through my husband's employer. I was required to have an IQ test as part of my psychological screening. I passed and had surgery on December 11. The way it was explained to me was that the insurance company wanted to make sure that I had the capacity to completely follow my doctor's instructions and to comprehend the enormous life changes that I would have to commit to in order to be successful.

I agree with you on the psych test. BUT if you have a test by a psych as part of your multi disciplinary routine, that's fine, if it wouldn't exclude someone because of education, but this was imposed by the insurance company, their rules, on who would have the surgery. AND. FRIDAY THEY ANNOUNCED THAT THEY REMOVED THIS REQUIREMENT.
