I had my lab band surgery on July 5th 2006 and have lost 35lbs. I have a little trouble in keeping away from the sweets and the chips. can anyone help me with some ideas how to control this.

HI, we all know that feeling. But ask yourself these two questions. Is it time for me to eat and is my stomach feeling hungry, or do I just want a snack? The second question why are they in the home in the first place? If you aren't hungry, then what you are feeling is head hunger, a craving. We all go thru that. You need to train yourself when out shopping that you aren't hungry and don't even look at the snack foods. Easier said then done. Been there done that. I don't buy them as I know they aren't healthy and that I didn't go thru having surgery just to turn back to snacks and foods that aren't healthy, just to gain the weight back on. Always stop and ask yourself, do I really need this or am I just craving it, do I want to gain the weight back on or keep it off? When you ask yourself these questions while at the store, and can answer them truthfully, you are on the way to a healthier you. What your body is doing is going thru the with drawals of the carbs in junk food. I sincerely wish you all the best. Kathy

Connie- I've struggled with some foods for years, and have banned them from my home for years - it seems to work for me with temptation. My current list is Ice Cream, Potato Chips, candy bars, and anything else I get out of control with. If I find them, I render them inedible (bleach, dishwashing liquid, or other stuff) and throw them out. I have a zero tolerance policy on those substances - and I often throw out partial bags of those items to get them away from tempting me. I just had an RNY last week, so I can't speak to how best to work with a lap band, but I can tell you that complete banning of those foods is the only thing that has worked for me - and I've struggled with my weight for 32 of my 38 years. Good luck with your quest. Brian

I know it seems odd but you need a new dedication. Get out the old lap band books, how to eat, when to eat and what to eat. It is easy to sip away from the Lap Band rules. Read them all again! Set a goal to start again where you are. Follow the rules! It has been 6 months, have you had you 6 mo follow up? What is your restriction, maybe it is time for an adjustment? Talk to your Dr, or Nut about a fresh start.
