Lotions?

My surgeons office has really recommended water, exercise, and lotions for getting firm skin and eliminating as much excess skin as possible. Which ones does everyone recommend?

hmm... lotions? I know there are "skin firming" lotions but in my honest opinion, I really do not think these help with excess skin or preventing excess skin. Not to burst your bubble or anything...but your best bet is just to focus on exercise. If you have a lot of weight to lose, excess and loose skin will be inevitable. April

Well, my surgeon's office didn't say that this was a cure all to excess skin...I'm just trying to go on their suggestion though to as much as possible. Wasn't looking for a miracle cure, I knew excess skin would be an issue.

I am glad you asked about a lotion. A lady gave me this recipe. Her mother in law is a nurse, and swears by it. Its called C.L.O. cream. Here are the ingredients: Ponds cold cream Lanolin cream Olive oil use equal parts of each. If you use 1/2 cup of ponds, use 1/2 cup of lanolin & olive oil. You can use your own amounts, just remember to use the same amount of all. It helps scars, stretch marks. I bought lanolin off of a website because the only lanolin cream I could find was at walgreens in a trial size, the green & white triple lanolin cream. I wasn't sure if this was the right thing, so I went ahead & got it while I ordered my lanolin. It helped my friend's scars from breast reduction. I am not saying it is a miracle cure. Just that it could help. Use 2 x daily at least 3 weeks to see any signs of success. It does make my stomach skin very soft. I like it.

Melinda, This sounds great! I'm sure sents can be added to it, right? I'll have to try this when I get home. I'll finally be able to return to my apartment on Friday after recovering a week and a half at my parents so I'm glad to return to some normalcy. Thanks for the recipie! -Alyssa

This is the same lotion that Vanderbilt uses on my mother when she is a patient. She is a severe diabetic and has the rough "elephant" feet with the thick, almost scaly skin and this lotion "melts" the dead skin away. It can be bought premixed but it is very expensive. I use this lotion on my mom regularly and it really helps. Ever since my surgery my skin, which has always been very oily, has been very dry...I guess it's because my body is not taking in excess amounts of fat like it used too...and this lotion has really helped. It will not prevent excess skin but it helps keep your skin supple, which can't hurt!

Hey Kym, I too noticed that my skin is drier then before. Before I had to wash my face constantly as it would stay oily. My arms and legs too. I even noticed that I only need to wash my thin hair just 2x a week. I use Nivia skin firming lotion. Seems to help on my legs especially in the calves and around the knees. But I haven't noticed it working any where else. But ask me if I'm worried about it, not. My appointment with the Plastic Surgeon at the Nashville VA Medical Center was changed from January 8 until March 5. That will work out great for me as I will be living there and hopefully in my own place. Working on everyone's laundry today. It's so piled up that you can get to the back door. Peggy works all day, the kids are in school, and Richard isn't able to do much because of his back. Must go, w/d are done, Love Kathy
