When can I sleep in my bed?

Just a questions...I had the surgery laproscopically and the bloating was so severe last week that I wasn't able to sleep anywhere comfortably, except a recliner. When can I sleep in a bed and when can I sleep in a fetal position? Just curious. Thanks! And sorry for all the questions. A week ago I was returning from the hospital, I guess I still have many, many questions.

Because I have a waterbed, I slept in our guest room in a regular twin bed for 2 or 3 weeks because it was easier for me to get in and out of. I was so happy to get back in my bed. I think it was still another week or so before I could get really comfortable on my side. I'm a fetal position sleeper too.

Hey Alyssa, I just remembered I slept on my side with my legs curled up when I still had both drains. I had a drain attached to a bottle on the right side and a g tube drain on the left. My open incision didn't bother me too bad. I couldn't sleep on my back at all back then but thats about the only way I do sleep now. I know it was less than a week after I got out of the hospital before I was in my bed. Since u had it Lap u have all that gas they blow u up with. I didn't have that. I'd say when ever u feel comfortable. I know it feels great to get back in your own bed. How are u feeling today? Ange I slip down here to the Tn board every now and then. Come on up to the Ky board anytime ya want. We're just a bunch of looney people up there lol.

Alyssa C, I to had laproscopically surgery three month ago. And the bloating was really bad on me. I slepted in a recliner for about three to four weeks. And then I was able to sleep on the sofa for a wee****il I was able to pull myself up without much help. I had trouble with bending and picking myself up. So I slept in places that was easy for me to get out of. And I slept on my right side in a fetal position. But it really depends on the person and how much pain you are in too. I slept in a place that made it easier for me and my family. I like doing things on my own so I found somewhere in the house which was the recliner that was less pain and easier for me. So I suggest you take your time and make sure that you can handle the bed when you are able. Way to go with the surgery AlyssaC. and welcome to the losing side. I am so happy for you. Thank you Tina! I was able to take a nap in my parent's day bed today and that was with some tweaking I posted a blog about it and if anyone wants to read it feel free! I'm hoping my recovery process that I'm recording on My Space and Obesity Help can help at least one person. -Alyssa

HI Alyssa, I was able to sleep in a regular bed on my left side when I was discharged. After they took the second tube out, I was able to sleep in any position except on my stomach. I haven't even tried it, as it's been so long ago, that the left side is now my favorite. I guess sleeping in a regular bed is up to each individual. When you are ready try it like just laying down to rest and see if you can handle that, then try it for the night. Best of luck and my prayers are coming out to you, Love Kathy

Thank you Kathy! I really appreciate the prayers, and the advice on the bed situation. I'm returning to my home today after being away for two weeks so maybe I'll be able to do the sleeping thing better in my own bed. God Bless! -Alyssa
