My Mother is undergoing LAp-Band Surgery at Blount Memorial in Maryville TN very soon. I wanted to get any suggestions or hints about the hospital or care. I am a maryville native and 2 months post-op from RNY so I know that there are always trick of the trade at various hospitals. At mine it was bring your own pillow and blanket. so I would love any and all advice!

Hi Hillary, I had my surgery by DR. Colquitt on Jan. 9 of last year. I have had to be admitted several times into Blount Memorial, and it was from having the surgery, but taking chemo kept causing my potassium to Drop and it was affecting my pouch. Blount memorial meets the Center of Excellance with Medicare. Everytime I have had to be admitted by my surgeon even for 4 days last month just before Chritmas,, I have allways been put on the bariatric sectiion of the floor, just not in the bariatiric section. They only have 6 rooms for the patients who just had surgery, but I am still put in their area but not inside their section. I have found the staff, the surgical nurses are wonderful and does everything to make things easier for the patient. I even had one nurse who would come in and wash my feet and legs as everytime I bent my head down, I would get very queasy and dizzy. Then she would do my back, dry it off and put lotion on it and massage the lotion in to the muscles in my back. While I finished my bedside bath, she would make up my bed with fresh bedding making sure I had 4 blankets as I get real cold real fast. But you are very important to them. You mom most likely won't be admitted, but if she is she'll be on the 4th floor South and it will seem like a vacation. All the rooms are private in that part of the hospital. On my door they have to post mask, gloves, and other stuff before enterng my room because I don't have an immune system. Those that didn't, I politely informed them they to to be in gloves and mask before coming around me. You can rest easily now, your mom will be in great hands at all times. time, always Kathy
