Hello everyone? Nice to meet all of you! :-) This is my first time to post. I will be having the LapBand Surgery on December 28,06. I am so excited and nervous too! I go and meet with Dr. Morton on December 14 and then on the same day I will go have all of the blood work etc at Babtist Hospital. Also I will be starting my 2 week pre op diet that day as well. I am truly nervous about all of this. I have researched my bootie off and it is still there! LOL The only surgery I have ever had was my C-section in 2003. One of my fears in all of this is when they start to put me asleep before my surgery. I am terrified of that. Can someone help calm me a little and say a prayer for me? I am so ready to do this but I am terrified all at the same time. Do I need to tell them I fear this before hand? And can someone that has had this experience explain to me what will happen and how they will put me to sleep? I am married to a wonderful man that supports me 100% but it is nice to meet friends out there that is where I am mentally on this. Help!!! LOL! Thank you everybody, Talina

Welcome!!! Congrats on your upcoming surgery. Don't worry it is normal to be nervous before, I am sure everything will go great! I will keep you in my prayers. I am so glad to hear that your hubby supports you on this, it's going to make things so such easier! Hugs, Jacqueline

Hi, I am so excitied for you. I am waiting on approval from my insurance. You will do fine. My friend had it done last Monday. She said it was a breeze. I think they may give you a relaxer in your IV. When I had another surgery they put a mask type on me & in 10 sec. I was out & never knew a thing until i woke up. Thet is what my friend said last week after hers. Best of luck, will say a special prayer for you. Ellen

Hi! I am getting lap band done with Dr. Morton too, on the 21st. I am sure we will do just fine! I did have to have teeth pulled many years ago and I remember the needle going into my arm and the next thing i know, I was awake in the recovery room. I know it is scary, but you won't even notice it. I am on the pre-op diet now. It was hard the first couple of days (I am on day 4), but so far I have already lost 4 pounds! Good luck to you! :-D

Hey there J.P. It is so good to hear someone on here is having the same surgery with the same doctor. Please let me know definitely how it goes. Have you met him yet? And if so what did you think of him? I want to know everything. I will be going to meet him on the 20 and will have the surgery on the 28. I have to start that crazy :-o diet on the 14. I think you losing 4 pounds already is great. I know it will suck but it will be better for us in the long run. How did you get your picture on here? I need to get one on here too. I think we will do great as well but you are right it is a little scary. Well I can't wait to hear back from you and I hope you have a great night and take care. Hang in there as I will be praying for you and please do the same for me. Merry Christmas to you and your family. :-) Your Friend, Talina Cole

Hey Talina. Will your surgery be at Baptist as well? I had mine at Baptist almost a year ago. I was amazed at my experience just prior to surgery. I started out in the downstairs waiting room, was called back quickly to sign a few papers, and sent to the surgical waiting room. I checked in at the front desk and waited just a few minutes before a nice man came to get me and gave me my gowns (one for front and one for back) to change in to. A nice lady came in and helped me get on my stockings (the ones that help prevent blood clots) and then the anesthesiologist came in. I told him I was afraid of needles and had never had an iv before. He gave me some numbing medication in a shot in my hand first (litocane, maybe?) and it didn't hurt a bit. Then he was so amazingly gentle with the IV. I was amazed! I hardly flinched. Then, the good drugs started coming. The person administering those things said she would be my bartender for the day. ha. I felt very with-it, not disoriented, but calm. I was able to talk to my family and the nurses at this point. I moved myself from the bed in the holding area to the surgical table after they rolled me in. The OR staff was playing music and joking around a little to lighten the mood, and really that's all I remember. I didn't have a gas mask to inhale from or anything... just the IV meds got me out of it enough that I don't remember how they got me under. It wasn't a conscious effort, thinking, okay I'm going under now. It just happened and then I woke up! I hope you have a calm experience. I'm amazed at how calm I was. I didn't have a second thought in my mind or really much anxiety... I thought about nothing but the surgery up until that day, but that day for some reason I was so at ease, which is weird because I get upset just hearing the doc at the family clinic saying they want to check my blood sugar or draw some blood or give me a shot! haha. Best to ya!

Hey there Amy. Yes it will be at Babtist. It is so good to hear the experience you had and makes me feel a whole lot better. Did you have the Lap Band done as well? Yes that is so cool you were calm and not nervous. I hope that is how my experience will be too! I appreciate you taking the time out to reply back to me. How much weight have you lost and who was your doctor? Hugs & Kisses Talina

Talina, I have nothing but good things to say about my experience at Baptist. It was a really good experience. I didn't have lap band, I had the duodenal switch. It's been almost a year and I've lost 107 lbs and my doctor was Dr. Husted. (He isn't in Nashville anymore, though.) I hope you have a super calm experience, too! Just go in to it thinking this is a great thing I am going to do for myself and my family. Best to you!

Welcom Talina!!! Try not to fear everything will go fine. As far as the sleep before surgery they will use Iv and very good ANthistesia(spelling?) I felt fine when they were whelling me out of prep ROOM to surgery I was fine then got into surgery and all I remember is someone saying "good night" then next thing I know I woke up in recovery room.

Hi! Being scared is normal. No worries...the anesthesiologist and the rest of your medical team will guide you through it. What's it like...? Actually, they tell you count usually and before you can get "3" out you are asleep. The next memory will be someone talking to you to wake you up and the surgery is all over. Oh, yeah...and they will probably give you something before they "put you out" which will relax you first and may even make you go to sleep before the "full'' anesthesia. Everyone has a different experience...but you will be just fine. Everything you will go through is so worth it! Nothing tastes as good as thin feels. Have you heard that one? It's so very true. Go for it! Happiness and good health await you! God's Speed! Jerry
