Hi everyone. I am new to this board. I am scheduled for lap-band surgery on Dec. 21 with Dr. Morton at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, TN. I am nervous, but more nervous for exams next week! :) I am currently doing to two week pre-op diet and I am so hungry! I go through a pitcher a day of crystal light along with my water. Does anyone know why this pre-op diet is necessary? JUst curious. I will do everyhting my doctor tells me to do, just wondering. Also, has anyone had Dr. Morton as their surgeon? What was your surgery like? How is he? I have my appointment with him on Monday, Dec. 18. I guess I am a little nervous and scared..what if i don't lose the weight? Anyway, sorry for the long post.

Hey JP, you are probably on the diet for two reasons. First, any weight loss before surgery will help with everything...even a very small weight loss is beneficial. Second, a pre-op liquid diet will shrink your liver which helps with any surgery involving the stomach. The main reason most laproscopic surgeries have to go open is due to the size of the liver. I am having to have open because of a previous stomach surgery that ended up plastering my liver to my stomach. These may not be the reasons you are on your diet but it is two very common reasons. Good luck with everything and keep us posted. You will find that we are all amazingly good at remembering details and keeping a check on our on-line buddies!

Welcome!!! Yes, I know the diet can be a pain, but make sure you follow it! ;) I am sure your surgery will go just great! Hugs, Jacqueline
