Hi, I am a new WLS loser. I had surgery on 10/23/06. I was 206 on surgery date and I am at 172 today. Hard to believe! I have a ton of questions (mostly about what I can and can't eat during this phase) I need some people to talk to. My significant others think this is something I just need to be strong to overcome. I have always been that way about everything else, but this surgery has kind of knocked me for a loop mentally. There is a lot that goes with it besides the weight loss. I went back to work (teacher) this week (week 5) and find myself so exhausted at the end of the day, I just want to lay down. I am asleep by 8:00. I have no energy eventhough I am drinking protien drinks. I am only getting about 45 grams of protien in a day though. Is anyone else really tired at this stage?

Hi Delynn, everyone goes thru it, I still get tired out and I'm almost 11 months out. Remember your body has been a major shock with surgery and needs time to heal, and recuperate. Welcome by the way, Jefferson City is about 12 miles from me, I live on the west end of Morristown. You will get tired easily. Are you getting in your fluids and excercise in daily. That might help you get some extra energy by walking. I sincerely wish you the best with your being on the losers bench. Always, Kathy

Hey Kathy, I have been walking and I am drinking about 40oz of fluid a day. I cannot seem to get down 64 oz in a day. I am surprised that I do not have to sip like others say they do. I can take drinks and it is not a problem for me. I have been eating chicken with melted cheese for protein and drinking a protein drink everyday. I am feeling fine, just tired by 5:00 p.m. I crawl in the bed and am asleep by 8:00. I feel like I am spending too much time in bed. I know that I am healing, but I am a little worried that this time in bed is not that great for me. I walk everyday, and I will be starting water areobics in January. I guess I just wanted someone to tell me that it is okay to be tired. Thanks for your encouragement.

Newcomer Welcome, I had my surgery 10-26-06 so I am in the same stage as you are. Yes, you will be getting tired real easily too. It just takes sometime to get use to it. I am on 2oz. of food three times a day. Yes, I understand what you are saying when it also comes with there as a lot more that comes alot with the surgery. I have never cried so much in the first four days after surgery for nothing in my life. It also has me feeling very alone at times, I am not but it does make you feel all sorts of things. But with each day you do start to feel better in the end. It does take time. You might even think that you made a mistake but that is just the after effects of the surgery. Do not second guess yourself, you did it for your health. If you have problems with your emotions we the friends at obesity help are here for you and I would even suggest that you get a therapist. Sometimes it helps and also go to support group meetings too. What you are feeling and undergoing is natural and normal after surgery. If I can help you at anytime let me know. My name is Tina Cannon write me anytime. Your friend, Tina Cannon

Tina, I know what you mean about the crying. I think I am past that now, but I did cry a lot in the beginning. I think I felt guilty that I was not carrying my full load. HOw hard it is for us women to let others do for us! My husband is great and not complaining at all (He even cleaned the bathrooms this weekend), but I am not used to being such a slug. I too feel very alone sometimes. I wonder what I have done to myself. This weekend I got out a little more. I am eating a little more than 2 oz and I drink one protein shake a day. I also eat crackers to keep the nausea away. I try not to eat too many of these. My brain is beginning to function correctly again. I have not lost any weight in about 2 weeks. I wonder why? YOu can write me anytime as well. Your partner, Delynn
