That was stupid of me!
I have to admit that I have tested the waters with sugar and not had a problem...until today!!!!!!!!!!!
I was out running an errand for work and stopped at Starbucks. The pumpkin loaf called my name and I thought "Just a little bit won't hurt." I ate maybe 1/4 of the piece and 15 minutes later I was in agony!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had to pull off the side of the interstate I hurt so bad. I'm sitting there on the side of I24 with all the windows open, sitting 1/2 out the door, shaking, sweating, cramping, crying, praying for death! It took about 30 minutes before I could drive back to campus.
I promise I will NEVER do that again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Susan
Oh wow! Now that is what I call a reaction! Remind me to never eat and drive. On the interstate and in that much pain - you poor thing. Atleast this tool is in place to keep people from resorting back to old habits. Hopefully this wont happen again... it has to be miserable. Especially out in public, being at home would help you to be a bit more relaxed. I'm glad you are feeling better.

I'd love to look at your recipe for SF pumpkin bread. Also, I'm going to try fixing some SF gingerbread. I'm in the mood to bake but I don't want any more episodes like yesterday.
I don't have a problem with portion control so I think if I can just control the sugar and fat I'll be okay.
Thanks,
Susan
Hi sweetie, now don't you know by now that I am the only one who can get away with eating processed sugar and have no reaction to it? I thought I taught you everything. I am sorry you had to experience that. I have a recipe for pumpkin bread, you can substitute the three cups of sugar for splenda, haven't tried it with whole wheat flour yet, I love my pumpkin bread and whole wheat flour at 3 cups is a little too much in the fiber department. When I come over the Christmas holidays I'll bring you a loaf and see if you can handle that, ok. I love it just plain and warm, or with a little cream cheese on it. I do pray you are feeling better. If you can't resist it, take it home then eat it. That way if you get sick it's in private and not on I-24. With my love, see you soon, Kathy
Trust me, I don't ever want to repeat that experience at home or away! I've delivered 2 babies without drugs, I've passed multiple kidney stones and had several surgeries and broken bones. When I say this was intense pain, I know what I'm talking about.
I'm off the week between Christmas and New Years. We can try to get together while you are up here.
Susan
Will plan on it, so is Toni. I will leave here on the 21st of Dec. and will have to leave by Jan. 2 to pay the bills, then back on the 7th to see the plastic surgeon on the 8th at the VA hospital. Then drive home again on the 9th as I see Dr. Colquitt on the 10th. whew, alot of driving. But at least I get travel pay from the VA and that's a tank of gas home.
I was reading the lady who had the revision in August. I didn't have my pouch stapled, I had the Proximal where my pouch is totally cut from the main stomach. This way the way stays off permanently. That and the lapband are the only two that Dr. Colquitt does. I know of another that had hers stapled, she also developed a leak, a stoma, and she had Dr. Husted as her surgeon. She now lives in Illinois and can't get a surgeon to fix the stoma, so she has gained all her weight back on. My cousin had the same kind done in West Virginia, and he's gained it all back on. To me gastric stapling is just like the lapband without the band. Those staples after about 2 years will wear down and the weight goes right back on. I told Dr. Colquitt I wanted if off permanently, and not find in two years that I was gaining it all back.
I cooked my first cured ham today. I had gotten it for Thanksgiving, then thought I would cook it when I got to Nashville, but the thought of soup beans over road my thinking abilities, besides I don't think after 5pm on Mondays, I am a blond the rest of the week. Ask me no questions and I'll tell you no lies. Ask me on Monday and you'll get an answer.
I'm going to go take those night pills and go to bed. They still haven't finished my apartment yet, but Section 8 has been informed, the moldy smell in here is killing me. I have to wear a mask over my oxygen at night so I don't breath it while sleeping.
You be GOOD and don't eat while drinking again. They should make that a law like they have for drinking and driving. You know how many accidents happen when you aren't paying attention as you are eating or trying to reach the fries and then hit someone. NO EATING WHILE DRIVING is your new rule.
Love you, Kathy

Susan,
I go to the messageboard at bariatriceating.com because they have hundreds of delicious sugar free recipes. I hate pumpkin anything so I can't say that this is my recipe of that I've even tried it.
pumpkin soy bread
1/2 to 3/4 LARGE can of libby pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
3/4 splenda granular
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup almond flour
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
2 eggs
2 tbsp melted butter
2 1/2 tbsp baking powder
LOTS and LOTS of cinnamon
a tiny bit of nutmeg
a splash of davinci syrups---i used HAZELNUT, CARAMEL, and VANILLA
1 cup rolled soybean flakes (bought them at the local whole foods coop, they're tasteless little rounds of soy that they suggested mixing into any baked good, so i thought i'd try it)
1/2 cup of walnuts or pecans
mix all of the ingredients listed above together. put in a loaf pan. bake at 350 for 40 minutes or until knife comes out clean.
I hope it comes out ok.
Janie
