Hi - Introducing myself
Hi - I'm Dennie (Short for Elizabeth). I've been reading this forum for a couple of days, but I haven't seen any great number of introductions. So if this is inappropriate, Oooops.
I'm in my 50s, married, 2 grown daughers, one is quite large like me the other is thin. I've got a 16 month old grandson who is a handful and sometimes I think he's rather mad. I was a bedside nurse in a large regional hospital for quite a while, then did nursing research, clinical trials and the odd actual research at a teaching institution. Then I got sick and I've been on disability since 2003.
I'm in the process of doing the doctor-supervised 6 month weight loss attempt, whilst getting paperwork, etc. out of the way. I've attended one seminar for one surgery center, and I'm scheduled for another. I'm trying to do this intelligently and logically.
Right now, I range between being nervous about the possibility of actually having surgery and about being disallowed. I just can't imagine.
Anyway, there you have it. I hope to learn a lot here!
Love
Dennie
Hi Dennie, you have come to the right board. You'll get support, love, meet new friends, prayers, you name it, you'll find it on this board.
Have you decided what Dr. you want or what hospital you want? Thee are a lot of people on this board from the Nashville area, they try to get together at least once a month, have lunch and pass on tips. Keep us posted on how things are going.
Do you have sleep apnea? You will need to schedule another sleep study or level test. Your PCP can arrange that, what about a hiatal hernia? Get that scheduled, same if you have lung or heart problems. Make sure you get letters for medical necessity from all your Dr.'s including all your records, and test results. Then when your 6 month diet is over with, you will have everything ready for the surgeon's office to send to your insurance for approval.
May God travel with you on this new and exiting journey. Kathy

Welcome Dennie! It sounds like you are very organized and well on your way in preparing for this life changing process. I think you will find that all of us have been through the nervous stage that you are in now. I can tell you that the only thing I regret about the surgery is that I didn't do it sooner.
I too am in my 50s, married and have 2 grown children. We have 2 grandsons that came into our lives along with their wonderful mother.
Keep us posted about your progress and please plan on joining us on December 9th for our monthly get together. We haven't decided on the location yet. I'll post something after Thanksgiving.
