Topic: Sleep Apnea and surgery
Hiya Everyone.
I am sorry to barge again. I was just curious if there is any additional testing for patients that have sleep apnea. I was diagnosed with it a year ago but could not sleep for no love nor money with that leaf blower strapped to my face. So I turned it back in to SISA. I was just thinking on my way home from work today the what if's like maybe having to have another sleep study or such like if it couldnt stick out the CPAP machine will they still think I am a candidate. My mind is racing thinking I have been working on this approval for about a year and finally got one and now what if this causes another setback ............thanks for any advice or info in advance. Sorry I have lurked a bit here and think you guys are great.

Topic: Had sleep study have questions!!!
Good Evening all,
I had a sleep study test down on thursday because I am going in for a revision and have had problems with falling asleep during the day.
They told me that i never went into rem sleep and that i had different brain waves and i moved my legs alot and woke up a few times kinda explains why i am always tried cause i am never really getting into deep sleep.
Did any of you have these signs and end up on a machine.
I don't quite breathing but my breathing patterns he said change alot
Thanks
Topic: RE: Bye Bye C-pap machine
Congratulations! I sure hope I'm one of the people who can donate their machine to someone who needs it - I'm just beginning to journey to RNY. Good for you! :-)
Topic: RE: New to this
I don't know, but for me I had the opposite results of most people. I first started using a C-PAP machine in 1997 (not for WLS, but just because I was snoring and my then husband told me to get it checked out). I never ever for the first 9 or so years felt refreshed. The C-PAP machine with the calibration it was on was not helping me, but I thought that was the way it was. I then went to a Bi-PAP machine for a year and then back to a C-PAP machine. I had been feeling better, but still slow moving during the day. I still wake up now during the night having fitful sleep. I can't wait to be rid of that **@$#! machine. I have to relose the weight I had gained.
Topic: RE: 100 pounds gone.... and still need CPAP! DAMN!
I lost 90 pounds with my RnY and still have severe sleep apnea. My calibration went from 20 to 10 though. Now I have gained weight so I have to lose it again to get of that dang $##@# machine.

Where are you from in Maryland? I live in the Baltimore area.
Keep trying the mask. Eventually, you will get used to it. I used to take mine off at night also. Now I have problems with it sliding off during the night. I guess my face is geeting smaller all the time.

Topic: RE: I HAVE SLEEP APNEA AND I'M CONSIDERING RNY
Hi Fred. Seems we are neighbors. I have sleep apnea and have used a cpap for years. I actually got to the point where I couldn't fall asleep without my cpap. There is a new mask available that doesn't cover the entire nasal area. It is a bar that goes under the nose and blows the air in almost like a canula for oxygen. It is more comfortable than the other mask. I don't wake with marks on my face every morning.
I thin that my apnea is nearly gone. I had my surgery in October of 06. My pulminologist wanted to wait for the repeat sleep study til my weight seemed more stable. I think I am near that point now. Yes, I did quit for the surgery. Stressors and my weakness prevailed however, and I am smoking once again.
Good luck!

Topic: I HAVE SLEEP APNEA AND I'M CONSIDERING RNY
Hi everybody,
I'm Fred and ive had sleep apnea for over 5 years now I've tried the CPAP machine but I can't stand having the mask on my face those of you who have used it know what I mean. What I would like to know is after your RNY did your sleep apnea go away after you lost weight and also if anybody use to smoke did you stop after the surgery or if you didn't stop how did it affect your health.
Thanks everybody

Topic: 25 an have sleep apena
I went to get my sleep study done back in june and found out in 3 weeks that I have moderate sleep apena. I was so depress. When I got back in town from going to Maryland my home town, the lady called to set me up on my cpap and I hate it. Still trying to get use to it but I also at nite take my off wit out knowin it. But I do pray to god that one day that I will get off it and be healthy. I'm kind of glad that I know so it can be treated, So I thank myself for doing this wls Cause if I didnt I would have not known that I have this and went on not being treated.

Hello Lisa,
Same story, it just took me & my husband a little longer (sleep ctr. here was VERY busy). I knew my husband had apnea but I was shocked to learn mine was just as severe. I also had another appt. after the tests to go over the results & the treatment, THEN an appt. to receive the equipment.
We have another appt. in 2 wks. (8 wks. after the results) & THEN I get to see my surgeon. Talk about a long drawn out process.
I'm still getting used to the machine. I'm shocked to find out that when I do wake up in the morning that I'm clear-headed. I don't remember ever not being groggy. I wonder if everyone feels like this.
