Topic: RE: Pressure settings - What does this mean?
Hello,
Tammie, the higher the number...the more severe your condition is. Meaning you are not breathing for long periods during your sleep. Thankfully my condition isnt as sever as it could be. My setting is only set at 4, however I saw the pulmonologist today, he said that it should be at 7.....but if you ask me hes a quack....he dosnt know me from a can of paint.....consdiering this was my first visit with him, and he hadnt done any test or form of evaluation when he made that comment. Hope this helps a bit.

Topic: RE: Head gear doesn't stay on
I use a chin strap--I don't need it to keep my mouth closed, but it does keep the head gear in place a lot more. Talk to your provider and let them know what is happening. You may need a different kind of head gear. I used a full face mask for a year and now the nasal pillow--it took me awhile to get used to it, but it's so much nicer than the face mask. Good luck!

Try making sure it is pulled down as far as it can go and be sure the bottom bands are tight. I was getting air through the sides and once I did that, I haven't had any problems and am sleeping like a baby. Good luck
Topic: Head gear doesn't stay on
Okay so... I have been trying to sleep with this head gear on with the actual mask that just goes over my nose, and it just won't stay on. I have it tight, but it still comes off when I sleep. I've only had one night where I've slept and I've kept it on. I still woke up about 2 hours after I put it on, found it was off of my face, put it back on, and I slept very straight and didn't move the rest of the night, but still. How do I keep this mask on????
Any ideas, tips, weird home devices where I can rig up the head dress to keep this sucker on? I need sleep! Lol.
Topic: OH Events contest: where do YOU want us to come?
The 2007 event year is quickly coming to its end. We've had a lot of fun, met hundreds of people, made new friends, strengthened each other, and empowered ourselves to continue on our journeys.
With the close of the 2007-year, our eyes turn to the future, to 2008. Where will we go?
Our team has analyzed locations, researched demographics, met with support groups, consulted with area professionals for hours.. and HOURS.. and hours! We do this because YOU are worth it. It is our goal to reach out to as many people as possible. But, we can't decide where to kick off the 2008 year! We've arm wrestled, had ping pong tournaments, basketball games and other battles of wills.
So... we need your help to make this decision! We're having a contest. Where do YOU want us to come to? Let us know!
For the month of November, we will leave this post up. Reply and shout out to us where you want us to come to. If you have ever wished for OH to come to your area, now's the time to speak up! Get your friends, surgeon and support group involved!
Simple reply to this post and let us know the area you want us to come to. At the end of November, we will count up all of the votes and we will make the announcement in December.
Rules of the game:
-Since this is a member's contest, you must be a member to vote
-Each member can only vote once for the same area
-Members CAN vote for multiple locations
-One post, one vote. If you want to vote for another location, make a separate reply.
-All votes have to be a reply to this one of the 'contest' posts
-Due to logistics, we may not be able to come to the exact city requested, but we will come to that 'area' as close as possible.
So now is the time to let your voice be heard! Where do YOU want us to come to?

I asked the same question when I was told my pressure setting is 16. She explained that everyones pressure setting is different - and it's the amount of continuous air pressure needed to get air into our lungs. She said 13 is the pressure setting most of the patients have that she works with, and that she's had patients have lower & high pressure settings.
Hope this helps.
Topic: Pressure settings - What does this mean?
Hi ya'll -
I've recently been diagnosed as having severe sleep apnea. I just got off the phone with the health center providing my CPAP to set up the class. The woman I spoke to said my pressure setting is 13. That means nothing to me! Is 13 a high setting? Low setting? What is the top of the scale?
Thanks for your help!
-Tammie
Topic: RE: NEED HELP!!!!!
I found that I wasn't getting enough air while my CPAP was ramping up. The people who delivered my machine showed me how I could turn off the ramping feature (or shorten the length of time to 5 minutes) and that seemed to help. Once I got up to the right air pressure - I was able to breathe again.
As for comfort - I have never been comfortable with mine - but I am able to ignore the discomfort and fall asleep once I feel like I can breathe.
If you still feel like you can't breathe after the machine has ramped up fully - please let your doctor know. It may just be an adjustment issue.
Topic: Problems with post nasal drip and CPAP
I don't know if anyone else has had this problem - if so - what did you do to help correct the problem?
I had the sleep study done - and according to my sleep study - I wake up over 100 times/hour. This is AFTER I had the tonsil-uvula-softpalate-ectomy done! I get a CPAP machine - and the nose mask (which I prefer over the face mask) - but I have this problem. I have post nasal drip that builds up in the back of my throat - then dries from the mask (AND I have the humidifier type of mask!!!) THEN I wake up choking! The post nasal drip stuff is blocking all routes to my lungs!
The sleep study doctor told me to stop using the mas****il I see an allergist to get my allergies sorted out. I see the allergist - am put on an extra strong dose of Allegra and Astelin and STILL have post nasal drip. BTW - I choke from my post nasal drip during the day, too.
I've just been to another Ear, Nose & Throat specialist. He saw the post nasal drip and ulcers in my nose.He also said all of the stuff in my nose are swollen and asked if I'd ever taken inhaled steroids (I said yes - I am on Advair for my asthma - and have tried Nasacort, Rhinocort - and all the others with no relief.) He put me on antibiotics and has scheduled me for a CT Scan of my sinuses (scheduled for the 20th).
SO - I'm waiting...and it's causing me to be nervous...and I'm a nervous eater (and I'm eating healthier - but still eating more than usual.)
ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED - on either
---and experience you've had with post nasal drip, OR
---any experience you've had to manage nervous eating.
THANK YOU!!!!
