Topic: RE: Should I go back for the second part
I have moderate OSA. My surgeon requires that all patients with OSA be compliant with using their CPAP or BiPAP machines; otherwise, he will refuse to do the surgery. I had my overnite first sleep study without a CPAP machine; however, there was not enough sleep data to determine if one was needed. The NP at the sleep medicine clinic recommended that I go to the second one with a CPAP machine that was provided by the sleep lab. I went for it and there was enough sleep data to determine that I have moderate OSA and need a CPAP machine. I got my brand-new CPAP machine yesterday and used it for the first time last nite. I didn't sleep very well last nite, but I am not as tired as I should be without the machine. If it were up to me, I would get the CPAP machine and then go for the followup sleep study.

Unscented baby wipes are what I use, they work great.

Carole, I just read your post and want to thank you for it. I am having a sleep study done tonight. My pulmonary doc just diagnosed me with ph. It is scary. I don't know yet how bad it is, but I am hoping that, as you say, it can be corrected if it is sleep apnea related. I had gastric bypass 6/01/06 and have lost nearly my goal of 100 lbs. I have been so healthy and now for this to happen is devastating me. I was previously on a cpap and after my surgery decided to go off it because I didn't feel I needed it. Please email me back and let me know what they found out with you and if you are cured of your ph!! I have to have more tests done, but I am praying that they are normal. Any words of encouragment would really help!! Thank you Joanne

Sleep apnea shouldn't be taken lightly. I was told by my nephrologyst that it can eventually damage your heart muscle from the lack of oxygen in your blood. Plus in my case I almost ended up in a car crash from lack of sleep and nodding off at the wheel. Since using the CPAP my kidney function had got enough improvement that I no longer need a transplant and can keep my own parts. So in my opinion I would go for the 2nd and use it if needed you might just be suprised at the outcome.

My Dr. said I had to use my cpap machine for a solid 2 weeks prior to my surgery. So, I had the test (part 1) got the diagnoses and then went back (part 2) for the titration study which is where they find out what pressure setting is most effective for you. now i have my machine. Is isn'tt that bad, by the way. Fairly small and quiet. i got the pillow nostil mask which is not claustriphobic and it has a little humidfior and is very quiet and comes apart for travel so you can just transport the small part. very nice.

Personally, I would not postpone it. I would definitely go. Maybe it'll actually rule-out the first diagnosis of sleep apnea. Or, maybe you really DO need some attention for this and the second one will help define what needs to be done to help you out. Good Luck!

Topic: auricular flutter, attrial fibrilattion & apnea
Hi: I went thru 2 cardioversion and one heart radio frecuency ablation to my heart to cure an auricular flutter. Everything went fine with my ablation and the flutter was repaired. But suddenly after aproximately 3 months, i started to feel with headaches and tired in the early morning, till one morning i wake up excited because i lost my breath during sleep & again, the flutter came back. I think, this happened because of my apnea, nowadays i am taking, 1 cordarone 200mg daily, 1 coumadin, and using de cpap regularly and my pulse is normal. Could be the apnea, the cause of my flutter?. Is there any medical correlation between those?. Awaiting any comments. Regards Pedrof

Hi, I have been told by my regular Dr. that my sleep study results show that I do indeed have sleep apnea and should be on the CPAP machine. However, I am not scheduled for a 2nd (spend the night adventure) for a few weeks. I asked my surgeon if I had to have this part done before surgery and he said no. Just have it noted that I do indeed have sleep apnea. So my question is...would you postpone the followup for the CPAP, if it wasn't required for surgery?????

Angela Youre from Gary IN used to live near there. The resp co should give you a tube of some kind of moisture gel that you can use. Your resp Rep hasnt been back since you got the machine? they are supposed to check every so often, check the machines check you too. wow. I had a setting of 18 and the machine really helped me, I used a nasal pillow BREEZE and also did use a TIARA chin strap that I ordered from the internet. But my RESP REP checked me at least every 60 days. Does your machine have a msart card in it? How do they know how many hours you are using the machine? Are you self pay of does your insurance pay for the cpap? maybe you might be able to get rid of it, but by all means if you still need it please find a way to use it as my resp rep said they had 2 brothers who died within 6 months of each other related to not using cpap as they died during sleep.
