3.5 Months Out And Still Getting Nauseous A Lot

Even though I'm doing everything exactly by the book... I still have whole days filled with nausea, followed by vomiting.  There's seemingly no rhyme or reason that I can detect as yet.  It often happens when I try new foods, like yesterday I tried a small salad for lunch for the first time.  Withing 10 minutes I started feeling nauseous and tried for 2 hours to keep it down, but I finally gave in and let it come up in the ladies room.  (Oh, it feels so good to finally let it go!)  After an episode like that, usually nothing stays down for at least 3-5 hours, including water.  Then, poof!  I'm fine.

This can also happen with a very tried and true food.  For example, I'll have yogurt every day for 4 days, then on the 5th... nope!  Cannot tolerate it, and it will come up.  I've told my surgeon, he is not worried about it.  He says it happens, and there's no real explanation for it.

Bottom line - I am vomiting at least 2-3 days per week and I'm 3.5 months out.  Is my pouch overly sensitive, or does this sound normal to you?

PS:  Sometimes it even happens with my regular morning protein shake. (There's no reason for it.)  I never know when it's going to strike.  I'm enjoying everything about my new guts, except this.

I am surprised your surgeon is not worried about it.  It does not sound normal to me.

Oh, dear.

Yeah... he said they don't know why some people have this, but that it's not uncommon.  He said it will get better.  But when?

Do you eat really slowly?  I don't throw up but if I don't eat at a certain pace, I will feel very sick.  I take 2 bites, wait 3 minutes, 2 more bites, etc.  The same for drinks other than water.  I tried just slowing down but this is the only thing that seems to work for me.  Good luck!

Yes, painfully slow.  That's what the doc asked me, too.  I'm munching on a Babybell cheese right now, and I've been at it for 15 minutes and it's only 3/4 gone.

Try keeping track of how much fluid you have had on the days you feel sick.  I noticed that on days where I'm slow in getting my fluids in, I feel nausea.

The problem is that on the days that I'm sick I can't keep water down for a few hours at the least.  So, I know that my fluids are low on those days.  Not much I can really do about it, though.

Thanks again.
