I am wondering if maybe your scale is just stuck? Have you tried another scale just in case?

Have you had your 2 week check up?  What does your Dr. say?  It may be that you are still losing fluids from surgery.  Hang in there.  The scale will start moving.

My surgery was 9/11 and I have only lost 14 lbs. I had gained water weight in the hospital and that took a week to go away and now just 14 lbs down from that. I am active but not able to walk a long distance yet. I have heart problems and it's taking my heart a little longer to catch up in this recovery process. I think my weight loss is a lot less that some others but we all lose at different levels. You might need to eat more if you are not wanting to eat as you said.

Hello, I was that way at first awell. I had an infection to boot. I also have learned since surgery that I have a thyroid issue. Everyone is right to encourage you to stay strong and not to worry as your body is repairing. But I certainly do understand why you feel so frustrated. Honestly a cry will help. Your stressing out so badly about the numbers( which can cause weight). As was mentioned check your inches and if that doesnt make you feel better put your scale up. Don't look at it.  Weigh yourself in a week or so.  Don't stop eating or doing what you have been told to do. Just focus on some small goals that are not weight orientated. One of my personal goals was to be able to wear a pair of shorts over the summer I could not fit in 3 years ago. I am 14 weeks post op as of  today and am down 38lbs since surgery but it has been a long haul. I was late to start walking aswell due to my infection. It was very frustrating but slow and steady will win the race. Chin up and be proud that you have done awell as you have. And remember to give yourself some credit. What you did, what you put your body through took alot of courage. Good luck and thank you for sharing, just hearing you talk about your own struggles helped me to remember that I am not the only one. Hope I helped you in some way aswell.

Sorry that you are having such a rough time of it.  I think that there is so much hype about weight loss and sometimes reading about others rapid weight loss during this process convinces us that it is a simple task, when we really are individuals and we differ in so many ways.  I attended my one month nutrition class today and the dietician was very realistic and thorough.  She emphasized many times that what works for one does not necessarily work for the next person.  She also pointed out that it is very difficult to get in all the protein, fluid, vitamins, etc. in the first weeks after surgery.  And everyone agreed with her so I felt better after hearing that.  It was all I could do in the first two weeks to stay focused even though I had shopped ahead of time for the groceries that I would need.  The emotional rollercoaster in the preparation for this surgery is huge and give yourself credit for the courage and commitment you have demonstrated.  Give yourself a huge hug and a pat on the back because it is NOT EASY and we are all on the same path.  I hope you feel better soon.  Big hugs
Nancy

Thanks everyone for responding and for your encouragement.  It does help some.

Kelly, from my pre-op appt. one week before surgery, I was 274.  At my one week post-op visit, I was 272.  So I guess I lost two pounds initially.  Nothing since.  I have my one month follow-up appointment on 10/16.  My surgeon has not been informed of this problem because he has been on vacation, and tomorrow and Friday, he will be in San Antonio doing surgeries.  I will be calling him next week, as I don't really want to wait until the 16th.

No, I haven't discussed this with the NUT because I think she's a nitwit.  Her "nutrition counseling" is a joke.  She holds classes (we're all one-size-fits-all, doncha know?), presents a quick powerpoint presentation, and rushes off to her next "meeting".  In fact, the first class we attended, she said up front that she would "get you guys out of here early because I don't want to miss the NCAA tip-off".  (Her college team was in the finals.)  That was the night she had we new people stay afterwards for 5 minutes, at which time she handed out a couple of copies of a diet and some basic nutrition info (no explanation of whether it applied to pre-op or post-op patients), and handed us a little plastic bag of Bariatric Advantage samples, with no information on what to do with them.  The handouts we've been given are somewhat contradictory, and so what I've been eating has been based on what I'm guessing is the right week I'm supposed to be in.  (I know, that sounds nuts, but you'd have to be here and see her little booklet to know what I'm talking about.)  I'm basically using the info I've learned here, the basic guidelines my doctor gave me, plus her lists of food items, and going from there.  I'm not educated or trained in bariatric medicine, but I have a pretty good dose of common sense.

Anyway. . .  I honestly don't think I'm doing anything wrong, nor do I think there is anything wrong with my surgery itself.  I have good restriction, yesterday I had my first episode of food getting "stuck", and I have very little hunger (and no head hunger).  I also don't have any pain or any other gastric problems.  Now, I do have hypothyroidism, and I guess there might be a problem there with my dose of synthroid, or some other chemical issue.  I will wait until my surgeon gets back in his office, and see what he has to say.

For the record, I was 316 in Nov./Dec. of 2011.

At my consultation in Feb. 2012:  309
Pre-op appt. 9/6:  274
Post-op appt. on 9/18:  272
My scale today:  273

I feel better today.  I'm just going to keep on keeping on, as I don't think I have any other choice, LOL!  Not like I can back out now!  If nothing else, the 35 pounds I lost before surgery have made me feel so much better, and I think the fact everything I'm putting into my body now is nutritious is helping increase my feeling of well-being.

Thanks again, all.

Beth

So two of the weights are from their scale, and one from yours?  Do you have any other weights from your own scale to compare it to?  Could you weigh yourself on your scale, and then go straight to the doctor's office (do not change clothes, do not eat, do not pee!) and weigh again on theirs?  They shouldn't have a problem with you popping in just to weigh yourself even without an appointment.

Maybe your scale is off, or maybe theirs is.

Also, It would NOT be weird to only weigh 2 pounds less at your one week checkup than you did at the pre-op appt because of the water weight gain in the hospital.  But not losing any since then is a bit concerning.

So  happy that I checked in on your this morning Beth!  There are many posts on here about people being a bit frustrated with the nutrition classes, me included.  Keep reading here and don't get discouraged.  I am sure some bloodwork will be taken and your consult with your surgeon will hopefully give you some answers.  In the meantime, chin up and keep the healthy eats going.   p.s. I purchased an inexpensive ($40.00) digital scale when I had my confirmation of surgery date so that I could track better.  When I had my one month appt. yesterday I was 3 lbs heavier than that morning when I weighed myself and I was prepared for that.  I also decided to only weigh myself once a week so that I did not drive myself crazy with the numbers.

I had my RNY on 9/10,  prior to my surgery date, I lost 75lbs in the 7months I was doing my preop program.

post op  1st wk I lost 11lbs, 2nd week I lost 5lbs 3rd week I lost 0lbs

I go to the gym every other day since wk 2 and I do 30 minutes on the elliptical cross traner and just started strength training machines but I must keep @ 20lb or less.

I was really worried and I have had 3  follow ups w/. my nutritional dr, my surgeon and dietition, along w. an appt w/ my pcp  each @ 1 wk intervals.
I am following my program and keeping my food diary on myfitnesspal, so I am doing everything I am suppossed to do and I was told by both the surgeon, nutritional dr, and dietition that this weight loss stall is soo normal that my body is in starvation mode, especially w/ almost 6wks of a liguid/ restricted diet (we had a 2wk preop liquid diet)  they also told me that once I start taking in more calories, it will restart my weight loss, also even though I havent taken any body measurements myself they said that I may not be losing lbs  but I can still be losing inches. my surgeon also told me that right now the numbers mean nothing that I am exactly where I should be @ this point in my recovery.

even though I get frustrated w/ not losing lbs, I remind myself that this isnt a race to get thin(been there done that !!)  that this is a new lifestyle I'm doing, and that everyday I'm improving my health not only for me but for my children, also in 3 weeks I have stopped taking 2 different blood pressure meds, 1 insulin med, and my reflux med so how much more can I ask for in such a short period of time?

hang in there the weight loss will come.

Thank you so much for your nice post!  Even though you have lost a few pounds already, it sounds like we're pretty much on the same page.  A number of people have told me that the weight will come off, once my body adjusts to all the changes.  As for the inches, I've been noticing my clothes seem looser all the time, and as I've said a bunch of times, I really feel pretty good physically, not like I'm "wasting away" or anything.  I'm just continuing to do what I'm supposed to do until someone (my doc) tells me to do otherwise.  And you're right, it really isn't a race to be thin, but a new way of living.  I think one of the reasons I feel so much better is that everything I put into my body now has nutrition, and no empty calories.

Let's keep on keepin' on!  It's bound to pay off at the scale one of these days!
