Get off the scale.   Put it away.   It will drive you insane.

You say you are following your surgeon's plan, and I believe you.  If you call your nutritionist, you'll be told to be patient, because you are still healing.  And it is true.

Your plan is so different from a typical plan that you might not get the best advice here.  So, call your surgeon's office,  stay on plan, and put the scale away.  In a week or two, your surgeon may take a second look at things, but don't second guess the plan this early out.

There is no way you cannot lose weight with this surgery.  Put the scale away, relax and watch your pants fall off in a few weeks.

But having said that, I never ate low-fat or fat-free products after surgery.  They are often higher in sugar and chemicals and fillers, and can fool you into thinking they are better for you when they are not.  Try full-fat mayo, full fat cottage cheese, butter instead of cooking spray etc. if you are comfortable trying them (I cannot tell you to go against your doctor's or nutritionist's guidelines, just telling you what worked for me).

... and like some of the other posters said, it seems awfully early to me to be eating things like relish, spinach, bananas, etc... but again, if it is your doc's plan, I cannot necessarily criticize it.

You need to follow your doctor's plan.  even though others and myself see that as a lot of food right out the gate, again this is your surgeon's plan.  Even if this was on my plan I wouldn't be able to physically eat that much in the beginning.  I understand if he wants his patients off of protein drinks that you will have to be getting in your protein through your foods.  Give it time, you will lose.  Go ahead and call your Nut just to get some feedback.  Keep us posted.  Jane

I only lost 2 lbs the first 2 weeks. My surgeon thought that I was holding some fluid and the weight would come off soon. He was right! I'm now 7.5 weeks out and I've lost 38.6 lbs. So don't worry. You are loosing - it's just not showing up yet. But it will! It does sound like you're eating more than I did, but 410 calories a day will certainly cause you to loose weight. So, just hang in there. The loosing days are coming!

I had surgery the same day you did and it took a few days to lose the water weight I gained in the hospital (around 12 pounds) and then I lost five over the next 10 days and the yesterday I had to pee constantly and go up this morning and had lost 2 pounds since yesterday. I just started pureed foods and I think my body was holding on in starvation mode. Be patient, the weight will begin to come off.

I was off shakes really soon after surgery because I was lactose intolerant and they made me SO on to regular food I had to go because I wasn't getting enough protein.  From your totals that the other poster checked I think your protein levels are way too low ...they should be between 60-80 grams per day and it is tough to get there I know plus your water and vitamins ....I think once you get your protein up and water in you will drop the weight. Protein is also very important for healing and the inside where we can't see is what I am talking about.  I drink 4 cups of lactose free milk a day ...it has more protein than regular milk 11g total and that gives me half of the protein I need a day then the rest from food ...also the milk doubles as liquid too so I only have to worry about getting in a min of 4 more cups of water (i tend to get more in) but in the early stages it is hard.  Run it by your nut but protein and water first then if you have room veggies and fruit.  The scale will move it has no choice but to go down.  Funny story I was weighing myself for the last week and the scale was saying 262 then a few days later it was back up to 265 and I was freaking out so I went to my appointment dreading the fact I had not lost as much as I would have liked so when I weighed in at the hospital low and behold I was down to 258 and i weighed in in the morning and the afternoon ...2 appointments and the weight was the same. I got home and I stepped on my scale and it read yet again 265.......time for a new battery or scale ...but I was hating that scale.  By the way I am 5 weeks out .  Best of luck and I hope this helps ....Jenn

Thanks so much to EVERYONE *****sponded to my post!  You've all given me a lot of good information, which I've definitely taken to heart.  Although my weight loss is so incredibly slow, I'm disappointed, but not discouraged.  It can't help but come off, as long as I do what I'm supposed to be doing.  I'll be having my one month appt. in a couple of weeks, and I'm going to just wait and see what happens then, without stressing anymore than necessary in the meantime.

I agree with you guys about the protein.  I don't think I'm getting nearly enough, so I'm going to work on that, and also work on my fluids.  I'm drinking constantly while I"m awake, but it's really hard, as most of you know.

And Jenn, I know what you mean about the scale; I had a very similar experience at my pre-op appt.  My scale at home showed almost no weight loss, but when I went for my appt., I had really lost weight!  I'm going to try to ignor the dang thing for the time being.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your own experiences and especially, your encouragement.  It definitely helps!

Beth
