Maybe this link can help locate a qualified surgeon near you.

http://www.obesityhelp.com/find/bariatric-surgeon/IL/

As you mentioned, each Doctor’s charge will be different.  There are many factors involved, such as Doctor themselves, the facility they operate, how long the patient remains in the facility, how insurance reimburses, etc.

I know in NJ the average price is between $15,000 and $20,000. I also know that many NJ Doctor’s give a ‘discount’ to self-paid patients.

I’ve also know many people who go out of country to have the operation done. There is one “famous" Doctor in Mexico many folks go to have their operation. If you’re really interested, I can try to obtain that information for you.

Just remember, once outside the United States your rights as a patient, and person, differ. While it may be cheaper in initial costs, unforeseen issues may increase costs.

Good luck, and know we’re here for you.

Good Luck on your Journey !!

Tom

I can not answer that question, but I have noticed by reading the posts on this site that some people get fills while being able to view it on a sonogram-type thing. I inquired at my surgeon's office and was told they do not do it here because it is a costly test.
Good luck with your quest for answers.

Maybe this will lighten your feelings … I had no apprehension and fear until about 30 minutes before the operation. And it had nothing to do about the operation .. well kinda it DID … so let me rephrase: It had nothing to do about the PROCEDURE, but it had to do about the OPERATION.

See I never had an operation before, and I didn’t know what to expect. Well I freaked and flipped when I was informed I need to … well .. hmmmm .. errrrr .. remove my “undergarments". I was mortified that anyone would see ... errrrrr .. hmmmmmmm .. my short comings.

I was livid and refused to remove my underwear. I was told if I didn’t I couldn’t have the operation, and I said it was fine and I was planning on leaving. Thank goodness my Sister was there to calm me down, and used the voice of reason. After I relented, and had a “****tail" (anesthesia) I could care less what happened.

OK, stop laughing!!

Good luck, and probably by the time you read this it’s be all over!!

And I too am sorry about the ‘timing" of the layoff. But I firmly believe things happen for a reason, and this could be a blessing.

Good Luck on your Journey !!

Surgery is scheduled for tomorrow.  Nervous and excited.

I've been robbed! My grandbaby stole my heart!  She just raised her hands and I surrendered.

I'm so sorry you are going through all this stress right now.  I'm sure all your worries are making everything worse.  Before surgery I was worried but excited at the same time.  When is your surgery date again?  I can't remember.  I'll be sending positive thoughts your way.
