Breastfeeding Woes

I don't think I will be able up breastfeed. My milk has not come in and Aiden is 8 days old. I have been pumping with a dual electric hospital grade pump every 3 hours snd still nothing! I have tried mothers milk and still nothing. We had to put then on formula on Friday. Hubby has been feeding Aiden while I pump. I just get a drop on one nipple after pumping for 15 minutes. So frustrating!

Are you putting the baby to the breast at all? Some women just do not produce for a pump, no matter what.

Yes, I do skin-to-skin and then try to breastfeed. He gets mad because there is nothing - not even collestrum.

I have a nipple shield that I put some formula in and he will suck on that. I do that before hubby feeds.

I sooo sorry Traci. I know it was really something you wanted to do. You can't say you didn't try. I really wish bf'ing would have worked out for you and Aiden but you can still have that special bond. Just hold him very close and look into his eyes when you feed him. That's what a Leche book I read said. On the plus side he will prolly sleep longer and you can go out and have someone babysit your son and not worry about how long until the next feed. I miss going out

I to wish I could do it. But, I am trying not to let it get me down. I have cried about it but there is nothing I can do.

i was going to as the same thing as a previous poster...are u putting baby on the breast?! my milk didnt come in for 5 days, but i never even tried a pump until it did. I was told babies stored up enough to sustain until the milk came in and that they were expected to lose weight while that happened.
Plus so many women never are able to get milk via the pump but baby feeds on the breast just fine.
Good luck, dont give up unless baby is suffering.

He lost 10 ounces while I was in the hospital. The lactation consultant and doctor said he had to eat because he got really jaundice. Then, he stopped eating because there was nothing.

We are still tryhing!

Breast pump won't produce milk like baby on the breast. Something about baby's sucking power(lol). You'll produce lot's more if he's feeding instead. Good luck, I hope it will work out for you!

Thanks. I have tried but he won't suck much because he gets frustrated because there is nothing. There is not even collustrum (however it is spelt).

I wish you the best of luck either way, and you do whatever you need to do to keep your little one happy and healthy! Dont see it as giving up!
