X-post - High copper levels?

I'm 3 yrs post RNY and 18 weeks pregnant.  My most recent blood work showed a high copper level - 213 (range is 70-155).  I'm not supplementing any copper and this is the first time my copper level has been checked.  My OB is going to check to see if there is anything I should be concerned with and to try to figure out why the level is high.

Does anyone have any information on high copper levels in post RNY people?  Most of what I'm finding is on copper deficiency rather than toxicity.

I had the opposite problem... but I can tell you that Copper and Zinc play off each other. (So I'd make sure they are testing your zinc too)

AND -- often low copper is a sign of low iron.  So maybe your iron levels are too high?

Make sure they are testing your CBC,  Total Iron-Binding Capacity (TIBC) / Transferrin and ferritin (stored iron).  Also zinc and copper...

I wish I had a better answer.  Make sure ALL your numbers are being checked.

The DS forum are pretty saavy with vitamins if you have questions....

Good Luck!

Have you had your Iron and Zinc levels checked as well?

I had a high copper reading too (285). It was the 1st time my surgeon's office had checked it- and they had no idea what to do with the results, other than refer me to my PCP- who had no clue either.

I did some reading online and found that if Zinc is low, copper could be high. I tried taking chelated Zinc, but it made me sick, so I didn't take it anymore.

I've had it checked a couple of times since then: 229, 150, 173... Andrea (i'm sure you've seen her posts, she knows a lot about vitamins, and lab levels etc) told me that Iron, Zinc and Copper are symbiotic, and one is out of whack, the others could be too. I've been struggling with low iron for quite some time....

So have the iron and zinc checked out too. Hope this helps!

Edited to say : Oops, I didn't even read Cindy's post before I posted,, I said the same thing as her basically (except my iron is low) LOL
