Alright - so I've heard everything from horror stories to it's nothing - what's your take? I go for mine and my first internal exam today - actually a little excited to see what the OB has to say, if we've made any progress etc. I figured that the GBS test is nothing more then what a PAP would be.

Oh a side note - tomorrow is my last ultrasound - so excited!

No big deal. The cervix check is a lot more uncomfortable if you ask me.

I agree with PP, it's nothing, it's not even as invasive as a pap b/c they just swab basically swab the outside. Good luck today, I can't wait to hear your update!

Thanks Ladies! I feel better about it now

This is the only time I've ever been excited about an internal! lol I can't believe how fast this pregnancy has gone - in just a few weeks (OR LESS!) I should be holding my little one!

GBS test is weird but nothing like a pap. Doesn't hurt at all.

Hope you've made some progress and are dialated some!

It ain't a thang chicken wang. I really can't believe I just wrote that.  I guess that's my Texan comin' out in me! LOL And if you're positive, make SURE you get antibiotics before delivery. If you deliver by c-section though it won't matter. I don't even have to be tested anymore, A. Because I've already tested positive so if I was delivering vaginally they would just automatically give me the antibiotics and B. Because I'm having repeat c-sections and it's not necessary to get antibiotics if you test Group B positive if you're getting a c-section cuz the baby isn't going to go through the "infection zone".

Have fun at your u/s tomorrow! I get my first of many growth ultrasounds starting Wednesday! It never gets old seeing your baby floating around in there!

OT

How many c sections have you had?  This will be my 3rd and they are telling me that I should consider tying my tubes because a 4th "could" be dangerous to a baby.  I just haven't looked into it yet.  I know we want one more baby but what is your take on it.

This will be my 5th c-section. Yeah usually Dr's will say that 4 c-sections is the max. BUT, when we were having our last one, we knew we wanted to have another one to see if we could have another girl and we really wanted 5 (or 6) children. So, we asked my OB to check my uterus when he was in there to see if it looked healthy and ok enough for me to safely carry another baby without there being any weak spots in the uterus or anything. He checked me over really good and said my uterus looked fine and cleared me to be able to have another pregnancy in the future if we wanted to. I just can't have any contractions for any reason because the risk of uterine rupture is extremely high for someone that's had as many c-sections as I've had. So the 2nd I start having contractions, it's to the hospital I go to either stop them if it's to early, or head in for my c-section if I'm close to term.

If you desire another child, ask your Dr. to check the status of your uterus when he delivers this one. He can check to see if there's any weak areas and will give you his opinion if he thinks it would be safe for you to carry another one, cuz with every time we get our uterus cut open, our uterus gets weaker so you do have to be very careful. But if you have no weak or thin spots in your uterus, you can safely carry another baby. So if you're not sure you're done, don't shut down the factory. And if your Dr. can't give you a really solid reason why you couldn't safely have another baby (besides the generic '4 c-sections is too many') then I'd get a 2nd opinion and don't let them do a tubal or anything. Make him give you a clear cut reason why.....like that you have weak spots or thin spots in your uterus.

I hope that helps you make up your mind. I had to have clear cut evidence that there was a problem before I'd accept that we couldn't have another one, but thankfully, my OB at the time was very open minded and checked me really good and he even said he felt really good about the decision we came to. And we were glad that I didn't have to shut down the factory! lol If you don't like what you hear from your OB, please get a 2nd opinion before you make a permanent decision. Good luck and let me know how it turns out and what your OB says about it. Make sure you talk to him before you deliver so that he will check you at delivery. And mention something when you're actually on the table too cuz they WILL forget! he he

It's soooo nothing. Up here, they are running a study/trial and having us do it ourselves.  The OB gives us the swab kit and asks us to go into the washroom and swab ourselves (he explains how) and then we bring it right back to the receptionist to send off for testing.  It's TOTALLY easy.

Its a long q-tip,,, you swab your vagina... and then you swab your anus :)
