Even though we will not start to try for three months I cannot stop thinking about it! I am trying to get as prepared as possible. I am reading on this forum a lot and found that I have a lot to learn. Some of the things I read here I have to be honest, I have no idea what you guys are talking about! I suppose I will learn though as I begin to go through some of the same things. One thing I have been wondering about is how your diet had to change when you became pregnant. I know I will have to try to eat more than I can now but how much more? Right now I eat between 1000-1200 calories. My doc did mention that we will need to tailor my diet and really look at what I am eating. No empty calories. I don't really get empty calories now since I have to really worry about getting in protein. But what can I expect. How many calories will I need to strive for once pregnant. Is it hard to do? I can't imagine eating more than I do. I can't believe those words even come out of my mouth! I ate a ton pre op!

A good guage for pregnancy (if you're a normal weight) is to take your weight and multiply it by 12. OR you can just add 250-300 calories to what you're already eating. I'm around 200 pounds and do NOT eat 2,400 calories. I maybe get in 1,500. My Dr. wants me getting in 1,800, 65-70g of protein and at least 120g. of carbs a day. You NEED carbs when you're pregnant....at least 100g a day. You do not want your body to be in ketosis. Ketosis is bad for fetal brain development. You'll probably want to eat around 1,800 calories a day....just to make sure you and baby get in enough.

I am 4.5 years out and just found out I am pregnant with my 2nd.  I have 10lbs to lose to be back down to where I was when I found out I was pregnant in February 08, it sucks.  I started a low calorie diet last Monday and found out I was pregnant on Thursday, oops.  I have an appt with my OB Tuesday morning and plan on asking him the same thing.  I don't want to get super fat this time around, although I only gained 34 lbs with my first, it could have been way worse.
