Pregnancy and PCOS
Well we have found out that we are pregnant!!!!!
I have PCOS and the reason I had Gastric Bypass was to correct my fertility issues and to be healthier. I have had 1 miscarriage prior to surgery when I was obese but this is our first pregnancy since surgery.....any advice?
I know I am going to stress and worry for awhile during the 1st trimester and I always check for blood when I go to the bathroom....so far so good but I am still very nervous!
Thanks,

One of the biggest problems I have had since I have gotten pregnant has been mental...having to eat and gain weight after losing all the weight is seriously messing with my head!
I started at 300 pounds 2 years ago, and have weighed 120 for the last 6+ months and even though I wanted to be pregnant and love being pregnant seeing my stomach not be flat ( I had a tummy tuck) really messes with my head. Eating carbs and more food then I normally do is hard for me.
I have read in my research that for post RNY patients we are supposed to throw everything out the window we have learned while pregnant...eating carbs, how much we eat, snacking...so on. Well having followed the rules very carefully for 2 years to get to and stay at 120 pounds it is hard to now do the exact opposite.
Good Luck.

Are you on Metformin for your PCOS? If so, I would talk to your doctor about staying on it. If not, I would talk to your doctor about getting on it ASAP. There has been tons of research about Metformin helping maintain pregnancy in women with PCOS. The miscarriage rate drops dramatically.
Some doctors automatically take you off of it as soon as you get pregnant. I went to my first OB visit armed with a lot of information and ready to fight to stay on it...fortunately, I didn't have to. My doctor was supportive of me staying on it for my entire pregnancy.
If you have an Endocrinologist treating your PCOS, that's a good place to start. They will know more about it than your OB, most likely.
Good luck.

Yay! Congrats mamma!!!
I also have PCOS and take metformin. I took it before my WLS and had 2 healthy, succesful pregnancies and have recently found out Im preggers again---surprise! This is my first (and only) pregnancy after my WLS. I stayed on the met--and will this time too--until 12 weeks because it drastically reduces miscarriage rates. I also take 200mg of prometrium 2x's a day to help with my progesterone levels.
I have beautiful healthy metformin babies and you will too! Congrats! XOXOXO!

Congrats Jen!!!!!
As far as Metformin....I have not been on Metformin in a long time and all the post PCOS bloodwork I have had done comes back completely Normal. Mr Dr. & Surgeon says I do not need it.
I have my first OB appt. on 3/29 so hopefully we will discuss all of these concerns at that time.
Thanks

Thanks!!!! My docotor took me off my metformin right before my gastric bypass and I have not been on it since..All my levels come back fine as well....I just pray everyday for a healthy baby. Its the number one reason I had gastric bypass... I do not see my OB til 4/5/2010.
