I finally went back to my Ob/gyn and got back on my meds; he actually gave me Actos instead of Metformin, which is just a different medicine to treat the insulin resistance but I only have to take one a day AND I don't have ANY side effects of nauseau or fatigue like I get with Metformin.  My cravings have completely gone away - whew!  And I've gone down at least 10 lbs and a pant size - YAY!

I'm right here with you sista!! Not to mention you won't have the defficiancies that RNY have. I'm horrible at remembering to take my medications so the SLEEVE was and is the best choice for me!

Topic: RE: hey, lap band with severe pcos, anybody have lap band??
I got my band almost 8 months ago, down about 57lbs. I have (had?) sever PCOS. Metformin has never worked for me, BCP has been a lifesaver, and the almost daily spotting has all but stopped. My hair is still thin and thinning (most likely due to anemia, and thyroid), but the hirsutism is so dramatically improved I never would have believed weight loss could have helped. I don't have to shave daily (I do but because I am still so self conscious about it). I have been told fertility shouldn't be any more of an issue for me than anyone else, but we aren't at the point of being ready to try either.

I have been banded almost a year and I have PCOS as well.  I stopped taking metformin 1 month before surgery and I haven't started again after.  I started getting my TOM the month of surgery and have had it regularly ever since.  A lot of my PCOS symptoms have dramatically improved.  I had melasma on my face, neck, armpits and abdomen.  That has completely gone away, except for a small amount on my face.  My acne has completely cleared up and there has been a huge improvement on the hairy chin/face situation.  Most of my weight is in my belly, but it has improved tremendously as well.

At my latest GYN appointment, the doctor said that I was fertile.  That's a word I never thought I would hear.  I don't intend on trying to get preg anytime soon, since I'm single, but it was nice to hear anyway.

Good luck on your journey.
Christina

I have PCOS and have been banded for 2 months today!  I'm 40 pounds down and feeling great!  I am still on Metfromim and spironolactone and according to my doctor - I probably will stay on those for a long time.  Let me know if you have any specific questions I can answer.  I have Roseacea (a form of acne), hirutism, big belly, the whole enchillada!

Take care and be well!

Metformin worked wonders for me. I was the biggest sugar-addict there was until I started taking 1000mgs a day. I just had my VSG surgery 3-11-11. I stopped taking my metformin the day of surgery and OMG my sugar cravings came back really really bad. I started taking it again about a week ago and now my cravings are starting to subside. Hope this helps.

Topic: RE: ovarian drilling
My cousin has PCOS like myself and tried 4 years of everything TTC. She got a new doctor because her first retired and the new one suggested ovarian drilling. It worked and she is now mommy to one of the cutest kids I have ever seen!!
