How did you get home from the hospital?
First, make sure you have the right vehicle. I recommend an SUV. A sedan will work. Avoid low-to-the-ground sporty cars.
Bring pillows to cushion yourself.
Take it slow. Accept there will be some discomfort. You may have to grin and bear it as you slide in and out. It wasn't great, but not the worst part. Make sure your driver takes it easy on the drive, slow on the turns and watch out for bumpy roads.
Good luck!

Drugs and lots of 'em. No lie--I was so high I don't really remember the ride except I know I was well propped with pillows (also had the requesite puke bag and chucks pad on the seat), especially one to hang onto and press into my tummy if there were bumps.
I was picked up in a van--agree this is key to a semi-not agonizing ride home.
Good luck!

completely agree...drugs! The nurses gave me IV meds right before they took out my IV (right before I went home) and 2 percocets...and I had my pillow. My husband went slow. We had alittle over an hour ride home and I don't even remember getting home! Really....he helped me up the stairs into our bed and that is when I woke up. Thank goodness for the drugs!
good luck

I went from clinic to hotel in a huge SUV. I was so sorry there wasn't a step stool to help me get up onto the seat. I also had my thighs done so maybe that's why I wanted the step stool. Heck, I needed one to get into the bed so that I didn't pull on the LBL incisions.

Number 1....meds meds and more meds!!! A pillow, or two, or three. I had TT and thighs,( cant imagine a butt aug.) I made sure I sad down with my legs out side first, then I used the over head handle to slowly lift and turn myself until I was in the right position. I have a Nissan Versa that sits low to the ground.....I couldn't imagine with a thigh lift trying to get up into an SUV.......but you didn't have that so you should be fine with anything......but definitely 3 pillows minimum....one to sit on, one to hold on your tummy and another kne or two to prop with.......and avoid pot holes at all cost......I believe my mom hit them all (payback for being a problem child...lol). We had an hour and a half drive home....eeeekkk!!!!!

Thanks, everyone! I am going to rent an SUV and stuff it full of pillows. And I will definitely ask the nurse to load me up with meds too even though we only have a 20 minute ride home from the hospital. I'm sure that is one situation where the pain pump will come in extremely handy. Now only if I could get a driver's ed brake on the passenger side to protect me from my Mom's driving...
