How far out of WLS did you wait for PS?

Hi all,

I am just starting my research for plastics and any info that can be offered would be greatly appreciated!  I am mostly interested in how long after your weightloss surgery did you have plastic surgery?  I am SO over this hanging skin and "flat tire" boobies (sorry if that's TMI but going from near 400 to 175ish leaves skin) lol... but I know I am only a little over 1 year post op and I have heard it's best to wait 2 years minimum.  Has anyone waited less time and been successful?  Thank you for everyone's input!

Hi Jean!
First of all, congratulations on your success!  I had WLS in July, 2008.  I just had my TT in February.  My insurance required I be at least 18 months out.  I think if your weight has been steady for a while you don't need to wait the full 2 years.  You will be so happy with your results.  I don't ever remember not having a hanging panni and in the shower still reach to clean under it sometimes It's wonderful to have it gone!  Best of luck to you!

Most surgeons want you to be at goal and stable for at least 6 months.....

The number I always heard was 18 months - 2 years.  I had mine at 20 months and it's great.  My weight has stabalized and life is good!

I had mine at 11.5 months out. I was within 1-2 pounds of goal and had been failry stable for 3-4 months.

Jean,

Congratulations on your awe-inspiring accomplishment!

My doc wanted me to be at a steady weight for 6 months, and not intending to lose more than another 10-15% moving forward.  That is particularly important, I believe, for the abdominal surgeries' success.  If you lose too much more after the surgery, you will be left with additional deflated skin.  They like you to be as close to goal as possible so you will be happy with the final result in the long-term.  I think it is important to remember, however, that, especially in your situation, removing the excess skin may put you at or near your goal.  It certainly would not hurt to attend a consult with someone, get an idea of what you might accomplish and how much excess skin/tissue weight they guesstimate would be removed.

I had lap band surgery 11/30/07 and LBL/BL on 12/11/09.

Congratulations on your weight loss! I waited 2 years for my first round of plastics (had to save lots of money). It's widely recommended by plastic surgeons to wait 6-12 months of maintainence.
