Hello! I'm pretty new to this forum and in reading some of the posts from some members, I've come up with a ton of questions...I had RNY Gastric bypass surgery November 14, 2008...The day of my surgery I weighed in at 221lbs. To date I have lost roughly 104lbs and am feeling amazing! I have been staying right between 118-120lbs which I am quite pleased about, however I am left (as many of you...) with what seems to be an exurbanite amount of excess skin! It seems to be the worst in my arms, upper legs and my stomach (even after 10 million crunches....ok, well maybe not 10 million, but a ton of them just the same!). My boobs at this point look like socks filled with sand and gravity is NOT my friend! I would LOVE to be able to get some plastic surgery to get them put back where they belong. I was a DD cup prior to my RNY surgery and since then have only come down by one cup size (D) which really surprises me . I've been "busty" pretty much my entire adult life and for just about as long have had issues with back pain that my doctor says 'could' be caused by my chest size. I haven't had any rashes under the folds of my skin like I've read that seems to plague so many post-op people. That being said, I was wondering if anyone knew of anything besides rashes that would get any one of my "trouble" areas deemed a "medical necessity" and paid for by my insurance company? Has anyone managed to get any of their plastics covered by their insurance company when skin rashes aren't the 'medical necessity' for the surgery?
I have been researching the different types of plastics for post-op RNY'ers and my head is swimming right now. I'm not sure what I could/should be doing right now to get the ball rolling in this next chapter of my life. I'm assuming that I would probably need a letter from my PCP stating why my surgery/surgeries would be a medical necessity, but beyond that, I'm clueless and really confused. I live in Maryland so if anybody knows of a few good plastic surgeons in the Delmarva area, I would be grateful if you could send their names my way. Also any suggestions or personal stories on how to go about this would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks in advance, and have a wonderful day!! ~Jenna M.
