Eileen,  everyone makes mistakes sometimes!  Sounds like there were lots of check and balances in place, and still no one caught it.  It was just one of those things that sometimes happens.  Try not to stress too much about it.  What's done is done.

Dear Julia,
My heart hurts for everyone of your Mother's relatives and fiends, but especially for you and your brother who have worked so hard to try to keep her in her home. I'm sorry your brother cried. It's hard to see a loved one decline, but now he understands the severity of the situation. All my love and hugs to you and yours.

(((Julia))) I am so sorry that you are going through this with your mom!!! But you are doing the right thing now!! With her being in the hospital now it should be alot easier to get her into a place that she will be comfortable in. I know back in Michigan I had to have Gary in the hospital for 3 days and they found him a nursing home to go to easily. Alot easier for them to find the place than it would have been for me...always a "waiting list" but not for hospitals it seemed. Prayers and thoughts for you and family at this time.

HUGS

Good morning, ya'll.
After my DH retired from the Navy he got a job at a place and did shift work. Not too bad, but every 4 weeks they changed shifts. Four weeks of 3 to 11, then 4 weeks of 11 to 7, and then 4 weeks of 7 to 3! He did that for 15 years. That was very difficult for all of us!
What causes people to go off the rails? Are there warning signs? Would be violating their rights if we reported everyone we thought had some warning signs, and it turned out the guy was just strange? Suicide is another case. How do we know? What can tip us off. My brother committed suicide when he was 17. We still don't know why?! Enough depressing stuff!
This morning a trip to the Commissary. We spend lots on groceries we don't eat! But others eat it! Then this afternoon carpet cleaners will be here.
Our grandson got his box of homemade goodies yesterday. I'm happy he is allowed to have them. He also called his Mom last night and that made her happy.
Better hit the road. Or the sewing machine. Two hours of that before our trip to the store.
Everyone have a fantabulous day!

Not much to report here......I have had energy to get out and work in my yard the last 3 days and I feel so thankful for that.  Everything looks nice, weed free, and the roses are especially beautiful.   Still need to take some soapy water out to the patio and wash the furniture.

I was very upset with the happenings in Gr. Rapids -- much too close to home.  Prayers for those who lost loved ones in this tragedy.

Friday and payday for me.  Weather is going to really heat up for the weekend.
Made a new pie from my diabetic cookbook -- consists of low fat cream cheese, 1/3 c. splenda, 6 oz. lowfat yogurt (raspberry), and lite cool whip.  You freeze it, - it is very good but the raspberry flavor doesn't really come thru -- will probably tweek the recipe the next time I make it.

Time to get to work -- good thoughts and prayers, strength and comfort to all.

Good Morning OFF-

Up early today and have already done my vitamins and pedaling.  Now for mowing the lawn.

Last few days have been a struggle eating wise.  I'm definately starting to stress about surgery and I haven't even got to the liquid diet phase.  I have tons of stuff to do in and around the house to distract me but can't seem to get motivated to do it. Yesterday I made a list of things and decided to tackle at least one item a day.

I know that this is the right thing for me but still analyzing everything.  May have to take a break from OH cuz some of the posts on the VSG forum are freaking me out.  Oh well this will pass.  I scheduled another visit with the surgeon.  I still have some questions and as I know that surprises bother me so another meeting avoids surprises, also holds me accountable on the eating.

Forgive my whine.  I'll work through this.  Off to my distractions.

Cindi,
Sorry some people are causing you stress. Is there some one you trust or your surgeon to talk about the issues at hand? Since you know this surgery is your choice, don't let what others say shake you.    Mag

Good morning, Eileen and all OFFers!

Another busy day for me today.  Yesterday I made my first batch of pickles.  I got 9 quarts and 5 pints!  The pints are for give-aways.  Seems like everyone always wants to "just try them".  That's great, and I'm happy to share, but not a whole quart!  Too much work involved!

Anyway, I got my kosher dill strips started last night.  They'll soak in the brine in the crock for 3 days, so I catch a little break there.  I should get 4 quarts of those.  I hope they turn out.  I'm trying a new cucumber for them this time.

Yesterday, when I walked out to the orchard to gather some grape leaves, I noticed that my peaches are ready to pick.  I'd better get out there and pick them today, but I won't have time to do anything with them until Sunday.

Problem is, I'm not quite sure what to do with them this year.  Before surgery I would have made jelly or jam, and I would have canned some.  I got on-line and looked up some recipes using Splenda last night.  I might try that.  I don't know.  I don't really want to "wake up" my sweet tooth at this point!  Maybe I'll just slice and freeze them with a little splenda.

I'm going to have a bumper crop of pears this year, too.  Again, what to do with them?  And my figs will be ready in a couple of weeks.  Oh, I dearly love fig preserves, but the Splenda website says that splenda is not good for preserves (which do not rely on pectin like jellies and jams).  You need real sugar to make preserves.

So today I really need to concentrate on getting ready for my Board meeting tomorrow afternoon.  I'm quite tired of serving on this Board, but I have another year to go until my term is up.  Hopefully, though, tomorrow I will get to hand over the treasurer duties to a new board member.  Then I can just continue as secretary for the next year.  I'll maintain the website, do our quarterly newsletters, and be responsible for the minutes at each meeting.  That will be better for me.  Treasurer requires quite a bit more thought and effort, and while I'm good at it, I want to be free to travel back and forth to Waco and San Antonio to see my kids now.

Still have all that mowing hanging over my head.  Still have no desire to get out there and do it.

Also today, I need to make a run into town and drop off these preemie baby things to my friend for her new little grandson.  They're making the trip to see Baby Eli tomorrow.  I know she is anxious to see him again.  She hasn't seen him since last weekend.

So, I hope everyone has a wonderful TGIF sort of day!  Weekend's a-comin'!  Hang in there!

Love you all!

P.S.  I just picked 17 pounds of perfect peaches!  Now what do I DO with them all?  I already ate 2 for breakfast!!!
