Soaking Saturday-What's UP?
Monica, it is so funny, at first I read your post as "smokin' Saturday" and our area is full of smoke from a fire the next county over. I thought maybe you had fires down there, too.
Trish, I so remember playing doctor with my grandkids! Every summer we had 'Camp Grandma'. I would make a big chart with everything we would do each day. They were so excited to see what was planned and mark off what was done. There was plenty of room for unplanned activities they could think up. They especially like fixing Gramma's hair and make up, and baking something. One year when we were cleaning out the back room, we 'found' a pirate map. We had to follow the clues (10 paces to somewhere, go to the tree with the fork in it), we eventually found a box full of treasures. We could only do that one year of course! My DIL was over the other day and we were watching TV with a Mom and her precocious kids and she commented that she had no patience when
her kids were little and she wished she had been a little less uptight with that stuff. I told her that was what grand parenthood was for!!
Yesterday I made cushions to replace the worn out ones on the boat my son bought my DIL for Mother's Day. She didn't even know she wanted one!! The boat is blue and Jim wanted blue cushions. But since it was her boat, she decided on white vinyl with dark blue piping. Now Jim just has to cut out new wood to attach them to. They have friends with a boat that has NO cushions, so I am expecting a request from them when they see the new ones Jim has! Man, I love a new project! But until then, I will be working on another Halloween costume.
Lynn, congrats on the school. I love the NP at our doc's office. She is very caring. I know you will be an awsome part of anyone's practice.
Well, I have run off at the mouth for long enough. Time to get dressed and head for the big sale at Han**** Fabrics!! My equivalant of Lo's forour son.
Everyone have a fantabuloue July 4th holiday weekend!
However, you have to come in a very close second to my Grandma Kelly. Your grandchildren will have the best memories and stories to tell their children as they age - I think that you are one of a kind!

Man, I should go honkey tonkin' more often! I lost 2 pounds between yesterday and this morning! LOL! Must be that beer I drank, huh?
Just ONE MORE POUND to my halfway mark!
Our date night was wonderful! We had such a good time in Gruene! Hope to go back again this fall for their trade days, when the weather is a bit cooler. We spent a couple of hours browsing through the antique stores. I'm so excited! I found a little dresser for the guest room here at Hilltop. Bought it last night, but we have to go back this morning and get it. It is just what I was hoping to find, size-wise, and it was the right price, too!
We had dinner at the Gristmill, and I opted to go very light. It's al fresco dining and I didn't want to eat anything too heavy, so I had the grilled chicken salad. Hubby had the BBQ ribs and I tried a bite and they were delicious. Had a glass of wine with my dinner and got a very pleasant little buzz from that! Doesn't take much these days to make me happy! LOL!
Then we wandered over to Gruene Hall and waited for the show to start. It was a GREAT evening! Hubby and I didn't dance much, but we stood up at the stage and swayed to the music and clapped along. So much fun watching the young folks party! It was getting pretty rowdy by the time we left. Several people had been baptised with beer and the crowd was a-jumpin'! I got a new t-shirt and a new CD, too! It was fun.
Well, this morning is back to reality. Got to get started packing up to go home. Hubby is back under the house again, doing some last minute plumbing thing. I'm cleaning out the frig and getting ready to sweep and clean my floors. How come it's always so much more fun to pack to come here, than to pack to go home?
I read all the Canada chat from yesterday, but no time this morning to really respond. Except to tell Pat R. that yes, I do have my passport! And hubby travels with his all the time.
Hope everyone is enjoying their 4th! Monica, I can't imagine all the activities that must be going on at your resort park! Have fun! Grammylew, LOVE the Camp Grandma idea! I may have to steal that one in a couple of years! Trish, loved your munchkin stories! So much fun!
Love you all,
Good morning,
Tom had the bright idea to take Baxter to the fireworks with us last night. All those little kids running around made him frantic to give kisses. but you know how he bites ... I kept him on a short leash so he didn't eat them. Should have put Tom on the short leash too. He kept telling me to let Baxter roam. Fat chance!
The pre show blasts didn't faze him at all. As it got dark he started to shiver so I buttoned him in my sweater. Just as he nestled in to snooze, the big stuff started. My oh my - he went ballistic. Poor baby.
I scooted to the car with him screaming in fear. Finally managing to unlock the door with a biting wiggly pup in arms, we sat. Within seconds he was in my sweater asleep. I thought he had a heart attack.
For some reason I reached up to check my earrings. Something I seldom do. Baxter had managed to remove the back of my screw on DIAMOND stud. Diamond was intact, the back gone!
The finale began. It was the most thunderous finale I have ever seen. My baby screamed in fear. Then I started to have a stupid panic attack and my meds were home.
Believe me, I refuse to ever put him in that situation again. He slept until 10 am and is on my lap asleep.
