Freaky Friday What's Up?
Margaret,
We're taking our vacation in the Canadian Rockies in August! Can't wait to see Canada for the first time. My grandmother was born in Portage la Prairie in Manitoba, and I've never been to see it. Wish we could "swing" by there during our trip, but that's like saying "Stop by California on your way to Texas!" LOL! Maybe another trip.
I'll be asking you about the weather and clothing and such later this summer, okay? I have NO idea what to wear or bring with us. I'm told it's cool in the mountains at night during the summer. But what's "cool" to a Canadian might be downright "cold" to a Texan!
Love the stories about your big dogs trying to hide under the furniture! My little Lulu is like that, but she only weighs 12 pounds. Big difference!

Hi Vickie
I'm glad that you are coming to Canada for your vacation. We are your neighbours (and cousins) and so few Americans really know us.
Manitoba has one of the highest number of French-speaking people in Canada even though most Canadians don't realize this. Was your g-mother French? Do you have relatives here?
I've been to Manitoba, but only in the winter, and the cold that one can feel in downtown Winnipeg at the corner of Portage and Main is legendary. I've been there, and I can attest to the frigid temps. The rest of the year, Manitoba is a beautiful place and I guess that it is in winter, if you like the cold.
I've driven through the Rockies and the vistas were out of this world. Are you going through Jasper, Lake Louise or Banff? Lake Louise will take your breath away - it is surreal-looking.
Get ready for sticker shock when you come here as we have to pay for our universal health care, which I can't imagine being without, so our sales taxes are high. Our dollars are pretty much equal, so take that into consideration.
Looking forward to helping you to discover the Canadian Rockies (to the degree that I can! LOL).

Having lived in Montana, I loved the Canadian Rockies ... went to the Calgary Olympics in 1988, went to Banff, also went to Victoria on the ferry over from Anacortes and the San Juan Islands ... so nice. I would love to go back again sometime. Went over to Saulte Ste. Marie and then took the train ride through the canyon in the fall (although I can't remember the name); it's just over the border from Michigan ... gorgeous fall scenery, just a wonderful day. I was up in that area for your Thanksgiving (in October).
Yeah. Happy Canadian Day back at you!! We have so enjoyed making friends with many of the Canadians who call this RV resort home for the winter. Love their sports teams so much. We have parades here for various fun things and oh how decorated the golf carts, cars, and people are.
We are jealous of the marvelous election process you have, wishing our election process was the same.
We are concerned about the fireworks here. Yoda has proven a scary bundle of dog during the recent Tstorms....we have had a least one "explosion" of Tstorms each day lately. Need the rain so much I am not complaining, but feel sorry for the little bundle.
Enjoy the weekend and your time off. Hugs, Monica

We love our sports teams, especially the hockey teams. Seems that all young boys (and some girls) learned to play hockey in the winter at some time in their youth. When it was summer and there was no ice, the road had to suffice and road hockey was born.
Yes, our election process is short; I think that it's similar to the British. We all watch American TV as well as Canadian TV and wonder how an election process can go on and on for what seems like eternity. Each to his/her own, I guess.
Have a great weekend Monica - you are our hero, (or should I say heroine?).

Monica....the "spray" you're talking about for dog dental plaque...could you share the info. on it. My furbabies need it badly. I've seen it advertised, if we're speaking of the same stuff, and it seems to work wonders. If you could send the website info or place where it can be ordered, I'd appreciate it much!! Congrats on your 1st check. I know that's got to help out a lot with this economy stuff going on. That's why Danny & I are doing the paper route....supplement the retirement income. Everything helps!!
