Nutritional plans vary from doctor to doctor but here are a few general guidelines:

1. YES - log your food. The best success comes from PLANNING meals and sticking to the plan as much as possible. A food log is a tool with proven results in better weight loss and is a great tool to analyze where you can improve.

2. Some dr.'s say to stick with 3 meals a day and perhaps one snack. Mine recommended 3 small meals and 2-3 snacks. This works well for me. I eat about every 3 hours, and seldom have the 3rd snack. This type of program allows for a more even level of blood sugar, protein to fuel your body, etc. For me it also assures that I can get in all of my protein.

3. At 6 months out I did not count calories. I counted only my protein grams, fat grams, and oz. of fluid intake, with an overall eye on limiting refined carbs as well. If you use an online food log such as sparkpeople.com, it will keep a calorie count running for you.

4. Exercise is another MUST for me. I'd recommend kicking your walknig routine up a notch, and/or adding in something additional to spark that metabolism a bit.

My Dietitian said to expect stalls, especially around 6 months out.

Her suggestion was to increase the protein and shake up the exercise routine. Still ... stalls are very frustrating.

Maybe if you could post what/how much and when you are eating we could offer ways to tweak your menu.

Chances are good that you are not doing anything wrong, this is just the crazy part of WLS.

Yes.  Stalls are normal.  Frustrating, but normal.  My nutritionist was not big on calories, but proteing  and fluids.  It would be best to discuss your diet with that person assigned to you after your surgery.

It is also good to mix your exercise program up, and finally, measure your inches during the stalls.  You are probably losing inches right now.

Hugs,
Trish
