Hi there!  Just stopped by to check out this board, as it was recommended to me, and I qualify at age 51.  Saw your post and wanted to congratulate you on your 232 days.  I just celebrated a year sober this month after having developed alcoholism after gastric bypass.  Come share your experience, strength and hope with others on the crossing to transfer addictions boards if you want to!

It's just another day at work for me.

Nice of you to stop by, it is a very active board, much like PA, though a little less drama, but think that comes with the aging process, the desire for less drama that is. . .  ;)

If you stick around I think you will find it a friendly place. . .

Morning everyone!

Two weeks from today is my surgery date. I think I'm becoming obsessed with reading everything on this site. Lol

Anyway, I work Thursday, then again this weekend (I'm a RN), and I'm going to graduate school and will be finishing up my classes next week. I cannot wait to finish this one class, it is research not my strong suit.

Debbie, I grew up in the Detroit area, and when I was a kid every summer we stayed at Nubs Nob between Petosky and Harbor Springs. One of my favorite areas. Reading your post about Mackinac island makes me kinda "homesick". Truly beautiful.

So nice to get to know you all!

Lynn,

I did the same thing going into surgery, I joined OH in 2006 and then because my cousin got ill and died, I stopped researching for a time, then began again around March of 2007 and found this forum at the end of July just a couple of months prior to my surgery.  It was the greatest thing I did, I became informed and knew just where to go when I needed advice or support.  This site becomes rather addictive and then the further out you go, you are living a much fuller life and tend to get pulled away more often than not, some you seldom see anymore, others lurk and post occasionally, I know when I am really busy I am not on here as much and mostly I am here from work, as that seems to be my least busy time these days (lol). . .

Anyway, we're always happy to welcome newcomers and love hearing from oldtimers. . .

Take care, Laureen

Lynn, where did you grow up? I am originally from the Rochester area - moved to PA 8 years ago but still have my kids and extended family in Michigan.

Lynn,
Good luck on your surgery, may you have a speedy painfree recovery! Your an RN, you know what to do...get up and walk! LOL sip, sip and sip some more.
My BFF is an RN, I've always worked in hospitals since I was 16 yrs. old. Mom worked in HR and as soon as us kids turned 16 we were all working in the hospital. Started out in Dietary as a hostess, bringing trays to patients. Now I work in Volunteer Services as an assistant to the Director. I love my job! Welcome and keep posting!

Morning Eileen, Debbie, Monica, Lynn and those yet to come aboard. ..

Eileen, watching people get laid off around us is very stress producing, as is many of our work situations these days, everyone is expected to do more, for less benefits, pay and appreciation and we're supposed to do it with a smile because we have a job, never thought I'd be facing some of the things I am at this stage of my life, but then again, I guess to put a positive spin on it, I will not likely be homeless or without food to eat and so no matter what happens regards to job market, I believe it will work out the way it needs to and hope that you can weather the storm within your field.  Breathe in the good, breathe out what's not. . .

Well here I sit at my desk today, was woken up by lightening and thunder at 4:15 a.m., wi**** were not this morning as today was my sleep in day, since I am off from the gym today, oh well, mother nature did put on quite a show and me and Roxie girl, snuggled with one another, she is such a delight, yesterday when I was bored I googled Rottweiler Rescue and there was this handsome boy from the same place I rescued Roxie, he had her same face, so tempting but I know that sooner or later dogs cost money and I certainly can't afford two of them, but I just love my Roxie and Rottweiler's, they are such devoted loving animals, so sad when I read about or hear about one that has caused harm, because you know that it is bad ownership and then the animal is maligned. . .  oh well. . .  LOTTO, for me would mean a big farm with lots of rescued animals. . .  after I traveled in an RV all over this wonderful country of ours. . . dreams, hey many of mine have come true, so I will continue to dream them. . .  anyway, I'm tired, but in a good mood, today we will have a farewell party for one of the people I work with, she is moving on to a different place, think she feels that it's not busy enough here and she would be busier where she is going, plus it is an old boss of hers that she liked, so now we are down two salaried people, that they have not replaced, which I think is probably a good thing for me for now.

After work, my plans were to take Roxie to this park called Freedom Park and it is supposed to be a really beautiful place where dogs once in their area can be let go and play and it is shaded, but we shall see what it is like by that point in the day, supposed to have storms on and off the next day or so, if not that, then a relaxing evening hanging at home. . .

Happy Wednesday and wishing peace and strength to all facing life challenges.

Laureen

Yes, Laureen, our fur babies need love, but they also need shots, vet visits, monthly heartworm treatments, monthly flea and tick treatments, etc.  It does add up!  Sometimes I look at the rat terrier rescue site, Rat Bones, and I always want to adopt another little rattie, but then I think about the commitment in terms of money and I know I can't do it right now.  I wish I could have a pack of a dozen of them!

I know Vickie, I am blessed in that my boyfriend pays for most of what she needs, as he knows I am still paying off the vet bills from Dillinger and he encouraged me to get another dog and so that is why I only have Roxie :(  but what a love she is and I am blessed to have her. . .  still dreaming LOTTO (lol)

Laureen,
My cousin had 3 rescue Rotties and they were all wonderful dogs and so well behaved. They had 5 acres and had one of those fences that would give them a little shock. The dogs had plenty of running room. Only Cora would run through it to explore other parts of the countryside. Maggie Ann's job took her to St. Croy in the Caribbean. Her husband stayed in the states until Zoe was gone because she was too old to make the trip. By the time David got to the island, Maggie Ann had 2 more! They are addictive.    Mag
