Good morning everyone! I have been up for a while, logged on and getting some work done. I have to get moving now to head out to a meeting. Then home for more work and if I am lucky, time for a walk.

Tonight I am going on a walking tour of Lancaster, PA's historic downtown with a group of friends. Should be fun to learn more about this place I call home!

Morning all, sober 224 days and so proud of me.
Gentle Yoda walk this morning, very nice indeed. Two dogs arrived at dog park last night and Yoda had such fun and was sooo good. He has been dog friend deprived lately and socialized beautifully.
I will discuss my phone call with social security today with hubby. I think I will file today. SS goes up $6 a month you wait until age 65. Over time that is not a lot in this economy. SS worker most helpful and kind. I find if you are kind and gentle and ask for patience you get it back easily.
Very pleased with initial visit to VA out patient visit here. VERY different than last fall's visit. That obnoxious employee not there...don't care where he is as long as we do not have to interact with him. Hubby sees new PCP tomorrow. I have a "honey needs list" all ready. Nurse warned us that Bay Pines a nightmare place to visit....HUGE..and very busy. Learned that there is another new clinic one town over with eye and dental available..will try for referrals to that place. Also gently suggested to hubby that DAV is available for transport to Bay Pines and that we should try DAV first or 2nd time we go. He was a driver for 6 years and loved doing this.
Played at pool and visited with a young family, their kids real water babies.
I enjoy learning about the candidates who want to be our next president. Have to respect their willingness to run. Need to understand their ideas and plans for fixing our maze of problems. Lots to choose from.
Trish enjoy your new job. Lynn, we have learned so much from walking tours of areas we visited. Car tape trips also give great insight into history of areas. I bet you can't wait to get to FL for some you time. It is gorgeous here, abundant sun, but such lovely cool breeze. It will be gusty here and you can smell the ocean with the wind coming from Gulf.
Mindful eating these days. Really concentrating on what is going into my mouth, putting down my fork, chewing, tasting, and feeling the food. Will look for new summer, fun salad plates. Portion control is easy with smaller plates on table.
Wishing all a happy Tuesday.

Good morning OFF!

"It's such a pretty world today!  Look at the sunshine!"  *****members that song?  It may be hot, but it sure is nice here today.  Love summertime.

Trish, what a jerk!  I'm so sorry you're having to deal with such a little pissant.  And I haven't said it yet, but kudos to you for going to your AA meetings!  I'm proud of your sobriety.

Monica, I'm so glad the new VA visit went well.  I know that was a big stresser for you, and you handled it beautifully!  So proud of your sobriety, too!

Well, I'm happy to report that Patty Kate had a MUCH better night.  Whatever those pills are, they are helping!  She has all but quit scratching and biting herself.  I made up a batch of venison, sweet potato and wild rice dog food this morning, and she scarfed hers down.  I'll mix it with the new venison kibble when it arrives, but for now she's just eating the homemade food straight.  Had to order the kibble from petflow.com, since it's not available here.  Having it shipped to the lake house since we're leaving here on Thursday.

So today we are busy trying to gather up all the tools and equipment we will need to do our big remodel job down at the lake.  And I need to pay some attention to the checkbook and make sure I've got all the bills paid, etc., for the rest of the month.  And do some laundry.  And I need to make a quick run to the store.  Lots to do today.

The world is a beautiful place today!  I hope you all find some joyful thing to marvel at today!

Love you all!

You sound wonderful. Happy for you Vickie. Glad Patty Kate is better. I know you must worry about Lyme disease with the deer around the lake house. When we are in PA we must search and feel each day on our Diablo when he was alive, and us too. Too many deer all over. The problem we have here in FL is the red ants....if Yoda gets one on him he goes unhappy quickly. We have gotten bitten a few times. Had the same problem with red ants in TX, that San Antonia soil....
Remember to be good to you and that shoulder during your renovation projects. The world is beautiful, gorgeous here, such sweet air. Love it.

Vickie-  My mom had a lab that used to get bitten by mosquitoes.  She'd then chew hot spots.  Mom tried to feed her brewer's yeast tablets which seemed to help with the mosquitoes and the hot spots.  Something about the yeast making the dog's skin icky tasting.  Dog loved the brewer's yeast and took it without any help.  What about fireant bites?  I know that Texas is full of fireants especially with the drought again, could that be the problem?

Hey Cindi,

Well, the vet gave her a very thorough exam since this was our second visit for the same problem.  He didn't see any bites of any kind on her.  In fact, he said she didn't even have any "flea dirt" on her.  She's had flea bite dermatitis before, so I'm really careful about that.  And we put out diazanon crystals each spring for the fire ants.  That keeps them run out of the yard for about 8 months.

I was reading on the internet and believe it or not, chicken is one of the common allergens for dogs.  I think maybe if you feed free range organic chicken it might be all right.  But he wanted me to go back to a wild game protein source that she has never had before and feed that for 3 months.  He recommended rabbit, but good luck finding that!  I can get venison, though.  It's right outside in my freezer!  LOL!

Thanks for the advice.  My little Patty Kate is so precious to me!  I just love that little fur baby!

Good morning all,

I finally finished noted from last night's support group meeting. There were so many people that we had to snitch chairs from all over the hospital.

It saddens me to hear newbies complain that they "can't get in enough protein" in one breath, then brag about filling up on chips, rice, pizza, alcohol, cookies, etc. Some nights my mouth gets out of control and I ask "why in hell did you have WLS?" It is hard to be supportive of self sabotage. We are all human but jeepers, at least start out following the plan.

Tonight is the new water aerobics class. This one is not low key but a strenuous work out. The only problem I've had is that my arches ache the next day. Must be doing something wrong.

Kisses

Hubby and I were very much involved in a support group after my WLS and before we sold our home. We would both go, he wanted other spouses and family members to realize how important they are to the process and journey. That was a major step for him to go and share. I was so proud of him.
It is bothersome that so many newbies don't really get the process well. Wanting quick fixes with empty food does NOT make it for true life style changes...those who embrace the real meanings of why WLS are the longtime winners. Getting in enough PROTEIN is key. I found FitDay very helpful during my 1st 2 yrs post op. I found that sufficient protein intake truly made the difference. Finding frozen shrimp helped me. Leaving the carbs behind very difficult for me back then and sometimes now. Visiting the fresh baked bread departments in grocery stores and leaving without a product is a smile making deal even 7 years out. When I do get a fresh bread I appreciate it. When I get to throw out 1/2 load I am also pleased. We can buy 1/2 loaf here and appreciate that.

So true Monica. WLS doesn't impact just the person having surgery but the whole family/friend unit.

Every now and again I drag Tom to a meeting for a refresher course.

Bread is not so tempting but you might catch me with nose pressed against the glass of cake displays. Drooling, not buying or eating because sugar makes me dump. That's a good thing.

Oh, girl, you and me both!  Baked goods just look and SMELL so good!  I can pass up the bread, but a cake or a pie or a cookie always give me pause!  Haven't tried one yet.  What if I dump?  What if I DON'T dump?  I just don't need to go there.  You wouldn't believe how many dessert recipes I have in my files.  What on earth do I do with all of them?
