Hi everyone!
I'm new to the forums, and since I'm over 55, I thought I'd check in.  I'm in the pre-op phase, it seems so long now, but I'm sure that after the surgery, it will seem very short!  I made the decision to pursue surgery because my cholesterol is spiking, my A1C has jumped, and my blood pressure was steadily increasing, and I wanted to have the surgery "while I was still young"

I was putting water in a bucket to water the garden over the weekend, and after a half-hour realized there was a hole in the bucket.  All I could think of was ....."there's a hole in my bucket dear Liza, dear Liza....."   and if you remember the song, you could be as old as me!

I remember the song too ... I'm also over 55, just by a year. Now the song is running around my mind. Damn! I'm nearly 7 years out (at the end of the month).

Welcome to the forum!

My siblings and I sang that song as we were growing up. We are all older than you. I'm the youngest at 60. Had my RNY 5 months ago.  Welcome to this glorious group of people. They are an awesome group.   Mag

Welcome Eliza!  I love good ol' songs like that!  I used to sing silly songs like that to my girls when they were little.  Just the other day I heard my daughter sing an "old song" to her baby, so the good old tunes live on.

Pre-surgery seems to take forever.  I started in Aug, 2010 and had my surgery in Feb, 2011.  Hang in there!  It's worth all the hoops they make you jump through.

Oh, and I just turned 53.  These ladies are wonderful--they have helped me through everything all of us newbies experience and offered true support and friendship.  This is a GOOD place!

Well, I'm 63 and I remember that song and a bunch more that show my age, like One Meat Ball. I also remember Howdy Doody and Buffalo Bob.
Welcome, Eliza, this a great place to express your concerns and celebrate your success. And even commiserate if you have a slight regain. I am one of the few lapbanders on here. Good luck with your journey!

Welcome Eliza!

Your avitar is interesting - do you live in the mountains?

My Avitar is a location in Glacier National Park.  I actually climbed the mountain in the middle 2 years ago.  I get lots of stares - a morbidly obese woman over 55 hiking in the mountains.....      I couldn't get out this year, as I wasn't in shape to do it.  Now you know why I'm having surgery!!

I LOVE the national parks out west! I climbed a mountain in Yellowstone (but was down in weight a bit at the time).

I started at 258 lbs. and 5'4 tall. I had surgery at age 53 - now coming up on 2 years out.
