Never too late at 55
I would like to recommend that you read some of the profiles of people on this forum. I haven't added to mine in a couple of years but kept it consistently for 2-3 years. It will describe the "ride" I talk about more completely than I can here.
Most of my ride has been wonderful, but we all have days that are better than others. All "rides" have curves, dips, hills, valleys, and times of coasting along. Like "riding" a bike you will learn a lot along the way. That's what I mean by the ride of a lifetime. No regrets here tho I have regained 30 lbs in the 6 years since my RNY.I weighed 377 lbs and I am just 5'3" tall. At my thinnest I had lost almost 200 lbs.
There are people on ths forum who have been successful with a band also. We are all reminded that whatever kind of surgery we have "It is not brain surgery" and we will have to continue to be vigilent and work our "tool" of WLS no matter what kind it is in order to remain successful.
Best wishes to you. All you have to do to see if someone has written a profile that is available for you to read is to click on the person's name under their picture to go to their profile page.

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . . It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . . Laureen

You are just a baby....;-o 55! I was 62 when I had my gastric bypass in 2006, and now 67 with 5th surgiversary coming up in July. Going from 320 lbs. to around 170 has made my world a totally different experience. There is freedom in my body now instead of fear that I'll break chairs, or need an extension on seatbelt in airplanes. Stairs are no problem, and my health is better than it was in my 40's.
Just enjoy each day, be sure to take pictures each week or month. You will be amazed at how you shrink and look as you look back. I journaled everything I ate, too, for about 3 years, and that too helped me stay on track. Now I eat almost anything I want...just small portions. If I gain a few pounds, I cut back on carbs and they go away (thankfully).
Good luck and keep coming back! We love to hear about your adventure.
