Never too late at 55

I just had the Gastric Sleeve at the age of 55.  I live in Beirut, Lebanon. I have four adult children and two grandbabies!.  Been struggling most of my life, but menopause really did me in, and then when I finally quit smoking, that was it!  Metabolic Syndrome, pre diabetis, and a brand new knee replacement to protect... it was time to take these measures.  So far.... three days after the operation, I am excited and hopeful.  Any advice is welcome.  Can't wait to see results.

Welcome to the Losers Bench.  This is a very encouraging board, and has helped me tremendously since I have been on board.

The best advice I was given when I had my gastric bypass was to "Sip, sip, sip and Walk, walk, walk."  Just keep sipping and walking, and you will do great.

Hugs,
Trish

I am following your advice .  Sipping all day, as much as I can, but I stop thirty minutes before a "meal". So far I am drinking two protein shakes per day mixed with water, and a bowl of chicken broth for the meals.  Then sip sip sip like you say.  Does that sound right to you?  Did you have sugar free jello and sugar free popsicles?

Yes, sugar free jello and sugar free popsicles were my lifeline, in addition to the protein shakes and broth.  If you are on full liquids, sugar free pudding has protein, and there are sugar free fudge bars too.

Don't forget to walk as much as you are able, several times a day.  It helps with getting the gas out, and gets you in the habit of exercising regularly.  Short walks, of course, but lengthen each day a little as you are able.

Keep up the good work.

Hugs,
Trish

Welcome to our little world! I had my LAP RNY at age 55. I'm now 62 and have no regrets. It's one heck of a ride. Best wishes.

I am glad I found this page. I am 56 and had lapband 19 mths ago and it  isn't working for me . I am looking at a revision to RNY.  I am worried about being my age and if there are problems with bone loss and things. I am glad to hear you are doing good and it is encouraging. One thing I am wondering is on hear I have seen some people say somethings about the ride. Is it a pretty hard ride and if so for how long. Thanks for the info.
