My DIL's headaches

I want to thank everyone who gave me advice and ideas about this.
Yesterday's neurologist FINALLY gave her some answers.
She IS having migrains. They can be triggered by many things, and they come in a miriad of forms. Our grandson gets tunnel vision when hi****s.
The doc has upped her Topomax, given her something to take during the day when a whopper begins. They discussed pre- menopause ( she is 41), hormones and the possible use of contreceptives (she doesn't need them cause our son has been fixed), also the possability of a beta blocker (blood pressure meds).
I think each of those things were mentioned here by you guys.
A really bad one began while we were there and she was given an injection that stopped it in its tracks!
She is so relieved to finally find a doc who listened, asked all the right questions and gave her answers that make sense and is gonna follow up often.
You guys are the BEST!

So glad she has found a doctor that is able to  help her. What a relief for all of you.
What is the cause of your grandson's migraines??

I am so glad you found a doctor who listened, learned, beheld the monster begining and treated it. Was the shot Imitrex? Was she given a script to get the injectable? Giving oneself a shot can be difficult but wow it can make a difference. So glad you went with her. Often when we go alone to doctors we don't hear all that is said or forget to say what we really needed to say. You are one awesome women...hope your son got the treatment he needed too.

I'm not sure what the shot was, but she said her hip really hurt afterwards! But I don't think it was Imetrex. Another doc gave her that with an epipen and it didn't help as fast!
She has 3 RX's. Non are injectables. When I had to give myself nupegen during my chemo it wasn't fun. But we do what we have to.
As for the cause? She could keep a much more detailed diary than she already does, but there are just so many things it could be. MSG, other foods, stress, hormones, weather, on and on.
The doc seems to think after 4 or 5 months, she may be able to be weaned off the topomax and just use another med for big flare ups.
My DIL and daughter never let me go to the doc alone through my entire cancer thing. We all learned how important a second set of ears can be. I took notes, too.
We love her like our own daughter and it pains us to see her in pain.

Hi,
Ditto to everything being said. Great news. My friend gets Demerol shots. She gets them at her doctor's office or at the ER if necessary. I don't know why it works for her but it just does.    Mag
