Missing my "little boy"....furbaby.

I don't post very often but come here everyday and read.  I find strength from all of your post/friendships.  I've always been sort of a loner and was a sideline observer.  Anyway, today I need to post because I'm so heavy hearted.

One of my fur babies, Buster, Jack Russell is in trouble.  On Monday evening, my sister took him for a little walk and stopped in a park that's gated at the school across from our street.  When school's out, she takes him there occasionally and lets him run and play.  He's SO hyper that it's good for him to get off some of that energy.  Well, that fun soon came to a halt!!

A lady and her daughter entered the play area before my sister realized anyone was there.  Buster spotted them and began his hyper barking, the little girl ran and climbed up on the sliding board and the lady continued to run from him.  He bit her.  He tore a whole about the size of a pencil eraser in her leggings and barely broke the skin(her words).  My sister grabbed him, apologized over & over again and was told, "it's OK, don't worry about it".  Well about an hour later, a policeman showed up @ our door.  He then called animal control.

The animal control officer was going to take Buster than evening and but him in quarantine for 10 days but my sister was crying so bad that they gave me 2 options that had to be settled by the next day.  Option 1 was bring him to the SPCA shelter for his 10 days or to his Vet for 10.  The next morning, after crying all night, I called the Vet and they gladly took him.

My husband took him to the Vet.  The Vet was so upset about all of it.  He said Buster is not a vicious dog and is updated on all of his shots so they were being extreme.  There happens to be another little dog in quarantine for doing the exact same thing except this little dog was in his own yard and the neighbor lady was visiting, went to leave and the little dog bit her heel.  Didn't even break the skin.  So he's there for 10 days too.

The Vet called Buster "Killer"....lol.  My husband came home and held me and said, "honey, when you do the crime, you pay the fine and Buster is in Juvy Hall paying his time.  I did giggle but my heart still breaks for my little guy.  He's a Mama's boy big time, even sleeps with us.  He gets to come on May 4th.  I've never wanted time to fly so fast in my life.

Thanks for listening.  I don't want to come across as defending my little boy because what he did was wrong but I miss him like crazy.  All of you are fur Mama's and I knew you'd listen with love.

I forgot to add that the lady Buster bit, called me Monday evening and she's going to a Tet nus shot and is sending us the bill.  I'm very thankful that it's not any worse than it is.

Cindy,

Thankfully Buster did not hurt the little girl and I'm sure it was the result of her running away as sometimes that sort of behavior brings out aggression in a dog.  I experienced something with my old dog where he bit someone and she got an infection as a result of it, it wound up costing me about $600, it was an abberation and with someone he really didn't know and happened just before he became ill, so I believe those factors played a part.  I was lucky in that she did not sue me or anything and I gladly paid all medical costs related to the incident and thereafter took special precautions with my dog when it came to people he did not know real well in particular.

Our fur babies sometimes do things that are just the nature of them being an animal, so while he had to be quarantined, gratefully, it was nothing worse.  My suggestion would be to take him to a dog park where he can run and play with others of his kind, if that is possible. . .

Hugs, Laureen

Cindy,  I am so sorry for what you and Buster are going through. When my little Shih Tzu, Irish, bit my Mom about 5 years ago we had to quarantine her for 10 days in our own home. Mom accidently scared her and Irish turned around and snapped Our backyard has a brick wall so there was no way for her to get away from us when she went out to potty. That was so much better than what you are going through.  Mag

Thanks everyone for responding to my post.  You have NO idea how much it means to me that you took the time to "speak" to me.

Yes, Buster & I will put this all behind us come next week.  You can bet I'll keep a closer eye on that little "****"....a  name he actually answers to.....lol.

Everyone have a wonderful day and be safe, it's raining off & on here in the Outer Banks.  My heart sure goes out to those who've been affected by the storms.  Sad times.

{{{HUGS}}}} I'm so sorry this happened to you and Buster. At least it wasn't worse, but I can imagine how hard it is to have Buster in quarentine. Thankfully he can do it at his vet's where they know him. The time will pass quickly. Be kind to yourself while he's gone. You're going through a lot.

Sorry about Buster!  What a little character.  Jack Russells are full of energy.  A dear friend just had to put hers down at age 17.   She was a bit feisty also. (the dog, not my friend :-))  Keep busy and the time will pass quickly.

Cindy, I'm a cat person, but I have been bitten by a dog ... that time, I was coming into my landlady's home to pay my rent (no, I wasn't late!). She had an afghan hound, the dog knew me, I said hello to the dog, petted it, let it sniff me and as I walked into the house, the dog bit me in the ass. Funny story, but true!

My landlady was so upset. She had me drop my drawers, cleaned the wound, put a dressing on it and then made sure I went to the hospital ER before I went home. She said she would pay for any cost. Well, the ER gave me a tetanus shot (I hadn't had one since high school) and redressed and recleaned the wound, and told me what to do to keep it clean. I bought supplies, tried to follow orders (wasn't easy, considering where the bite was), and eventually, it healed. Insurance paid for the tab, her company called and asked what my costs where and cut me a check for like $50 ... more than I asked for (I paid maybe $10 for supplies ... if that). I never called the police, I knew the dog had its shots, I knew the owner ... why bother? And this was my landlady ... I wanted to have a good relationship ... didn't want to cause trouble.

I hope your furbaby will be OK ... do they allow visiting hours in puppy juvy? Just teasin'.

I love my kitty, too ... I keep her inside so she doesn't cause any trouble. But I know that's tough with dogs ... they have to do their business outside. I wish you guys well.
