What's SO GREAT about WLS after 50? Update!!

I'm only 3 and 1/2 months out, but thought I would share a bit. When I was at my heaviest I had trouble walking from my home to my car. Out of breath so bad. Just like others here it hurt to walk or stand. I sat on a chair and made meals being seated. Exercise? Forget it. No way. Life was not easy nor fun. I decided that I needed to make a change. Get a real life. There were so many things I couldn't do w/ friends and family. I was on many meds at the time and the pharmacy bills were horrible.  My blood sugar was 283 on the day before surgery. Hadn't had one done in a year so I have no idea how long it had been running high w/out me knowing it.
What I'm thankful for?
   I'm down 89 pounds   (33 pre-op and 54 post-op)
I can walk easily into stores and down a very long hallway at my surgeon's and feel perfectly fine (no B/P problem, not out of breath, not feeling like I'm ready to collapse.
I'm already happier and looking forward to tomorrow and the future.
Next time I see Grace (4 years old) I will be able to hold her on my lap for the first time in her life.  Now that I have a lap lol
It has taken a while but now I am getting more energy and can do more things in one day.
My last 2 glucose levels were 80 and 83.
I'm off all 3 inhalers for my lungs. ****ep a rescue inhaler w/ me for emergency, but have never used it since surgery.
My diuretic is on hold but I haven't needed it after I was one month post-op
So pharmacy isn't so scary anymore.
   B/p down from 160's over 100 to 112 and now 110 to 120 over
60 to 70
Heart rate down from 120's plus to a wonderful 67 this AM
No more pounding heart rate when carrying groceries.
There is so much more, but I have work to do AND the energy to do it.

Like several people before me have said, your sister has to want it for herself, and believe it to be necessary.  My sister had lap band surgery in June of last year, and does not follow a diet for WLS, nor does she exercise, so her weight has been about the same.

What I have gained since surgery:

The respect of my grown children.
The energy to play with my grandchildren.
The ability to sit in an airplane seat and use the seatbelt without an extender.
The energy to walk my dog everyday, multiple times a day.
My blood sugar is normal.  Prior to surgery, I was prediabetic.
I am off my cholesterol medicine.  My cholesterol was high, prior to surgery.
My self-esteem is higher.
My spiritual life is better.
The freedom to enjoy people's company at social events, instead of focusing on the food.

Food addiction is a deadly disease which can only be arrested, not cured.  Weight loss surgery is a tool, not a cure.  It must be accompanied by diet and exercise to be effective.

I am grateful for the gift of this surgery, and have made many friends here on OH, and at Barix, where I had my surgery.  I am most grateful for the health I have attained because of this gift.
