OT: Dillinger Update - Weekend was a Roller Coaster Ride
I spent the entire weekend caring for my boy and have not had time to check in here, but I am happy to say, after having a rough night Saturday, as he was not being fooled in all the usual ways I have used in the past to make him take his meds, so he whimpered and whined and I had to make a trip back to UofP at 6 a.m. yesterday for him to get an injection of pain medication, things have begun to really turn around. I have now found out that peanut butter is a wonderful place to hide their drugs ;)
His appetite is still nil (other than peanut butter), but the vet said that is normal and that we will start giving him an appetite inducing drug today if he does not start taking in food by this afternoon. She is not concerned as he is drinking, doing his business and his surgical incision is clean and healing nicely. I am home, taking vacation time until he turns the corner more and as he wants to be near me, which is a positive sign, as initially, he just wanted to be left alone. Last night he curled up beside me on the areo mattress I have set up in the middle of my living room, and wanted me to hug and pet him. The areobed also makes it possible for him to get up on the couch, his other favorite place to be. He is going to be even more spoiled when all this is behind us. . .
Wishing you all a wonderful day, prayers and positive thoughts for all those in need,
Thank you and hugs, Laureen

Laureen,
I think it was someone on this forum that gave me this advice about grandbabies. I think it applies to our furry friends too: Fruits and vegetables spoil, not babies (or pets!)
My dog used to eat the cheeze spread and the peanut butter and then spit out any little bits of pills that were absolutely mashed to a pulp! Eat Dillinger, eat!

Glad he is doing OK. I know Greenies has pill pocket treats for cats ... do they have them for dogs? Might be something to look into ... but if the peanut butter is working, you really don't need them.
AeroBeds are wonderful; glad you can make good use of them for your furbaby. Take good care of him, as I know you will. You can't spoil him ... just give an extra load of love. That's what he really needs right now to heal anyway.
