WAy OT: Genealogical overload WOW
i made my Mayflower connection this morning!!! not 1 but 3 signers of the Mayflower Compact !!!! 1 of the signers and his wife and daughter , another signer married that daughter and another signer --who has only about 14 million descendants...geezzzz..i think i am lost in the crowd on that one!!!!!!!!!!
the application for the society is not much different than that for DAR but i cannot use papers that have been filed with any other group so that could be very interesting!
anybody out here who has done this before??tips????
anyhow--i am on overload now so i need to get away from the computer for a bit!!!!!!!

it isn't that you can't use the ppl from the DAR but they say not to submit documentation used- so that kinda confuses me--i think i am going to email to ask...
first , i went to mayflowerfamilies.com and got the list of the Mayflower Daughters from there--it shows which daughters married whom...i am sure that the list from the mayflower society is more complete of the paasengers--it shows all of the ppl-and it will let you click on their names to go to more info--but the daughters list is a good list....many -actually MOST of the daughters were not on the mayflower-either came later or were born later!
in my case; the DAR name is only one man who is going to be hard to prove as a Patriot but ---his grandson is a key to the Pilgrim line--the gson's mother proves up....hmmmm...i could do without that Patriot if i absolutely must---but the pprs that i have to use to prove my own existence due to my adoption are key to both societies....yours might be simpler ...
did any of that make sense????

How exciting for you Margo. The majority of my ancestors are Cajun, from Nova Scotia. I've got some German and some English, but can't even go back past the Civil War on that one. The Cajuns I've traced all the way back to France.
I guess my family's "claim to fame" is that my aunt said we've got a witch in the family.
Wished I could help you with your application, but all I can wish you is Good Luck.

Good luck with the documents you need. One of my very very distant cousins got her application in and approved for the Mayflower. She has offered to share with me what she has so I will only have to get documents in from my great grandparents on.....................I feel almost quilty that someone else has done most of the work and and then I get to reap the benefits. I sent her a check to help cover part of her cost for ancestry ( that will help ease my conscience)

Hi Margo,
It took me quite a bit of effort to join the DAR with one ancestor. Once my application was accepted and I was doing data entry for the DAR, I found 3 more ancestors that were patriots also, so I did supplemental applications on them. I am in the midst of doing my Mayflower and Jamestowne applications and was not advised that I shouldn't use previous documentation that was submitted for the DAR. I think there is a caveat that they don't have to come to the same conclusion based on the same documentation. Either way I'll be submitting the same things plus additional information to cover the additional generations.
I have shared ALL of the information I have worked 5 years to obtain with all of my family members. No sense someone else reinventing the wheel!
