I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Hi Cindy and my OFF family:
We got oh, about 5-6 inches of snow ... looked like more coming down yesterday but doesn't look that bad now. However, we're getting more now. There were more than a few pile-ups on the highways yesterday. I had nowhere to go, so I stayed home. Rented a movie through pay per view on cable, "Changeling," with Angelina Jolie, directed by Clint Eastwood. Oh, very good movie, you must see it! In the middle of it, Carla called and I paused the movie, but then it stopped and went to the trailers. I was worried I would lose it (I haven't rented a movie for awhile and used to DVR them ... they won't let you do that anymore, so I wasn't sure how it worked). But there's a queue there called "My Rentals" and there it was, and it picked up where I had paused it. You get to watch all day, in any room in the house. Kinda cool. Like I said, I don't do it often.
Also ... ta da! Made the almond cookies. Other than burning a few of them, they were yummy. These are made with almond butter and almond flour, so very high in protein. I thought about adding some protein powder too, but decided to follow the recipe instead. And using the parchment paper worked so well ... didn't even have to clean the cookie sheets, just threw away the parchment paper. I have some shredded zucchini in the fridge yet from my zucchini cake a couple of weeks ago, and if it hasn't gone bad, I may make some zucchini bread (from my gastric bypass cookbook). Having the stool in the kitchen really made a difference in my baking experience ... I didn't have to stand, and I wasn't in so much pain the rest of the day. So I enjoyed myself so much more.
Cindy, I can understand your issues with your mom, although my mom isn't there yet. She's 84, and we worry about the day when she isn't able to take care of herself. She adamant about living on her own and driving herself. Her mom lived to be 90 and my mom's oldest sister was nearly 90 when she died last year. Mom is fairly healthy and her mind is fairly sharp, too. But there are steps in her house, and lots of other areas that aren't very senior-friendly. Mostly, we worry about her driving. She knows her limitations and doesn't drive at night much or places that she isn't familiar. She won't drive on the highways, for one. Still, she has lots of little dings and dents on her car, so who knows where those are from. She has issues with her left shoulder from a fall. She has hearing problems she won't admit to. So there are lots of issues there.
George, sorry about your friend's son's death.
Hope everyone has a good day. No big plans for me, just laundry, dishes, some exercise, reading and basketball, then the Oscars tonight.

Good Morning Cindy and all,
I'm sure glad we didn't get the snow that Pat did. It snowed all day yesterday but luckily only about 1" accumulated on the ground. It is so darn cold tho. To make things worse, I talked with my mother in Texas last night and she said it was so cold.....only 40 degrees. I'd kill for 40 degrees....LOL
I'm so sorry to hear George's news about Nina's son. We on the Indiana Board have been overcome with grief this morning too. Our friend, Linda, was in a serious car wreck yesterday with her entire family and this morning her 5 year old daughter was pronounced dead and her son is still in intensive care. This comes on the 10 year anniversary of losing her first daughter which compounds the situation. I agree with George that no parent should have to bury their child. Our hearts and prayers go out to both these families.
After church today, we went to the hospital to see another OH friend who had WLS last month. Due to complications, not related to WLS, he remains in a coma. His wife had WLS just last month too, and we're worried that she's not taking care of herself, but she did look pretty good considering what she's been through the past 27 days.
Well, I think I'll go build a fire in the fireplace so I can get warm.

Sorry to hear about your friend also. That would be too much for me losing 2 children. I pray her son survives.
I also pray your friend comes out of his coma. I know a lady here that she and her husband both had WLS and then just a couple of years later, he died of cancer. It was the fast kind, found out he had the cancer and then was gone. That is so sad.
I was born in Indiana, Evansville. So I am a hoosier. Only lived there 4 years, but have many relatives there. I am not sure where Lawrence Indiana is.
How is your wife doing?
Take care,
Mickey
Mickey,
Thanks so much. Just read a post that the little girls heart is going to a little girl in Missouri and some other organs to another child, so that is good news. Haven't heard anymore on Mikey, but it sounds like he'll be alright. Luckily he was wearing a seatbelt because his door was ripped off.
Lawrence is a suburb of Indianapolis. We've only lived her a couple years. We're actually Michiganders.
Brenda is doing so much better. Her hemoglobin was low when she got bloodwork done, but she continues to get stronger each day.

Thanks Floyd for getting back to me.
That is good news that her heart will help some other little girl, but also such sad news that she lost her little life.
Sounds like you didn't move to much warmer weather. I keep saying if I move to another state it will be south. But as long as my kids are here, I will bear these cold winters. I guess it could be worse.
Glad Brenda is doing better. That was a scare in itself.
Take care,
Mickey
