Possible Side Effects of WLS???

I went and had my eyes examined yesterday (first time since my RNY 10/07) and was amazed that after wearing glasses/contact lenses for 46 years when the doctor told me that my eyes had improved. I went from a -5.50 to -4.75! I have never had my eyes improve and have always been excited when they have remained the same. On my way home I wondered if it was possible that the improvement in my myopia could possibly be a side effect of my WLS, especially because I take such better care of myself and use all of my tools especially taking vitamins, eating right and exercising and drinking water? Have any of you had improvement in your eyesight as a result of your WLS?

Last week I also went and had my teeth cleaned and for the first time in over 10 years had positive results there as well. I also suffer with bad gums and they always bleed and I grow tarter. This was my first "good" check-up in a decade. Could this also be the result of taking better care of myself?

I'd love to hear your opinions and success stories. We obviously have heard that WLS improves diabetes, heart disease, and many other health related problems. However, I have not heard any comments about gums or eyes. No matter if these are related to my WLS or not, I'm thrilled!

Some folks eyes get better as they age because as we age, our eyes see differently, hence bifocals for all of us who had perfect vision or had trouble seeing up close to begin with.  Those who couldn't see far away, for some reason, get to see a little better.  The teeth cleaning can be a result of no sugar or sweetened drinks and eating vegetables ect.  I'm guessing here.  The expert is Darlene.  She is our resident knowledge base.  You might send her an email.

I had my eyes checked last week and the Dr told me that the changes usually stop around my age (56) and that my eyesight has improved also.  Just gonna need a stronger reading part of the glasses is all. ( I think that just gets worse with age) I'll take it though.
