Had my informational meeting today, very overwhelming

Hey to all of my newfound friends,

All of the information is overwhelming.  First off, my surgeon only does gastric bypass and lap band.  I asked many, many questions.  The meeting was very informative.  Very scary information and nothing to be taken lightly for sure.  Lots of excellent health benefits as an outcome.

So, I guess I'll continue with the weight group meetings since I must attend 6 of them as an insurance requirement.  Plus, my actual appt with the surgeon is not until May 26th, unless they have an cancellation.

I'm going to continue educating myself and read everything I can to be prepared to make the decision of my life.  So much to think about.  I really need to do this for my health.  The benefits are astonishing.

Have a great day everyone!  Thanks so much for all of the support too!

It can be overwhelming, but everyone wants to make sure you know what you are getting into.  You are right.  It is NOT to be taken lightly!  It is life altering and those of us who love food, will be changed forever.  It is all worth it to me.  I want my health back!

Debbie, I'm so happy for you!  Yes, it can all be overwhelming but as time passes it all starts to fall in place and make sense.  As for questions, the more the better.  I asked everything from how long the surgery would take to inquiring if my surgeon had ever "lost" a patient.  Knowledge is power, girl!

The next few months may have their moments of rockyness so remember, we are all here for you.  You've taken the first step (which is a giant one!), give yourself a big "at-a-boy"!

There is a great book that was recommended to me called, "Weight Loss Surgery For Dummies"  No I'm not kidding.  Then you can read through it at your leisure and maybe not get so freaked out with all the information at once.  There is alot to know.  I still pick it up and read it.  Its a great resource.

I still have so many questions.  I guess I should post them separately, maybe I'll do that tomorrow.  I'm off to my bird club meeting.  Have a wonderful evening ladies!  Thanks again for the support.  I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate all the kindness here.

Debbie..Step back and take a BIG breathe and know we are there for you. We all I assume were scared and overwhelmed with this decision, but with knowledge is power. We have the experience and will be there for you.. So bring it on.. If by chance you have diabetes the only surgery solution is Gastric Bypass to get rid of diabetes, since that is all your surgeon does.

Overwhelming is putting it mildly...what a ride!!!

Just take it one day at a time.....keep your eye on the prize.

Reggie's suggestion of "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies" is a great idea. Easy reading and very helpful.

We are here for you every step of the way!!

Rosey,

At the beginning, without a doubt there is a lot to learn and get a handle on and even knowing stuff is not the same as the actual experience, since each one of us is made up differently and will have different experiences post-surgery.  But, yes, educate yourself well, so that you can make informed decisions and go into this with as much knowledge as possible.  We are here to share our experiences with you.

Wishing you the best as you continue to explore your path to healthier living.

Laureen
