It's Sunday! How's life treating you?
Went ot Sunday School and came back home. I had a beef roast in crock pot that fell apart so we had a hot roast beef sandwich. I ate about 1/3 of one. My fill seems to be really kicked in now. Thank goodness.
I have been busy, busy this last week. I hope to do a bit of resting this afternoon after I go over and get my exercise done.
Ya'll have a wonderful day. I am off to the exercise room!!!
Hello, family!
The sun is shining here and JB is outside scraping the ice away off the concrete driveway because t's so darned slippery...especially with a new layer of water on top from melting. The snow is melting fast too..wow! We had four feet of snow in the side yards and now it's down to a foot deep in places and in some spots, even bare with real grass underneath!
Today, I'm cooking for the rest of the week..making more beef & barley soup. Whenever I make soup, I fill about 6 two-cup containers for Mother and put them in her freezer...but she eats at least one cup of the soup every night just before going to bed. Now Mother is not the most generous when it comes to compliments, but the other day she told me that I "make the BEST soup!"..as if in surprise. Well, darn, I've won awards for my soups.
We are dealing with a slight flooding in the family room where Derek has made his apartment...apparently the long-term deep freeze has frozen water in the sump pump lines and so it can't drain off the excess water from the weeping tiles outside around the house...so Derek & JB have rigged up a temporary piping sustem to get the worst of it.
For the first time in many years, JB and I havent taken our usual winter vacation, heading down south to enjoy Myrtle Beach or Florida. We are trying hard to cut back on expenses...with so much of our investments shrunken so badly and the potential for JB's pension to be tampered with, we are being very cautious just in case.
It's disheartening, to say the least, to have worked so hard to make sure we didnt have a mortgage, to save for our retirement, to limit our spending all these years to ensure a comfortable retirement, and all that could have been for naught. If GM retirees lose their pension, we are in trouble. JB worked there for 46 years and worked 6-7 days/week, on three shifts...we have already lost alot of our medical & drug coverage and now we have co-pay suddenly as well.
GOOD NEWS!
Derek has a new young lady in his life..her name is Carly. She is smart, pretty, focussed and finishing her 4th year courses in college for Culinary Management ( I've noticed him on his cellphone with her nightly...shhh!). The funny thing is...he was in the wedding party for his buddy Henrik's wedding yesterday...most of their friends are married with kids now. He said all of his married friends..and his brother and sister-in-law.... were all ready to go home around 10 pm...he says it's scary..all his friends are turning into OLD people! *LOL* I had to laugh..
I'm re-working the covers of my Mandala colouring books and this week I have to get them printed...IF I have enough money. Then I can bind the books. This worrying about every penny is hard...I got used to the good life..although I grew up "poor", it's quite an adjustment for me.
Well, back to the drawing board!

Karen, hope everything's fine with your new house! Mine is still a work in progress!
I've been furniture shopping again, now for the loft. Had the cushions to 2 rockers reupholstered. Just a beautiful job he did so I'm taking my gramma's antique chair to him to build and cover a new seat and fix some wobbly legs. Also bought a dresser for the loft hallway to store extra linens, etc and a cute little curio. Putting the final touches on a few rooms by getting fancy switch plates. A room is finished when I get rid of those plastic switch plates. Found a great site called Switch Hits. Has a lot of the odd configurations I need in decorative plates.
Work is a challenge starting to work for another boss in Jan. with different expectations than my other boss. But I'll adapt in time.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Life is treating me just fine! George and I had a great day off Wed. I went back to work Thur. very refreshed! Yesterday he went hunting and I went to see "He's Not That Into You". Last night there was a viewing of the movie "Firestorm" at our church Parish Life Center, including coffee and dessert - tiny 1 - inch squares of cheesecake, I had two. Disappointing to see how few people took advantage of a night out, especially since the price was right - FREE! The 12 of us who were there had a nice little discussion afterward. Between yesterday afternoon and today I did some marathon cooking: deer steaks, baked fish, round steak, pasta primavera, steamed carrots, and broccoli and brussel sprouts fresh from the garden. We will eat well this week! I know we won't be able to finish all this food, so I'll call GII to come over for dinner one night, and some will go in the freezer for emergency meals. I'm pooped! Now I gotta decide what we'll be eating for dinner. Truthfully, I don't feel like eating anything I've cooked! I want Wendy's chili!
Have a great week everybody. I wish I could check in more often. I miss my OFF family.
Debbie
