OT: B'day

Today is my 26th sobriety birthday, and I have some thoughts and challenges to share.  Two weeks ago I went in for my yearly mammogram.  They called me back the following week for a diagnostic mammogram.  There was an area of concern on my left breast. The tech asked me if I had had a physical palpation by my Dr, I said I would be seeing him on Friday for my pap.  After they read the film they want to see me back in six months. Went to the Dr on Friday and when he checks my left breast he said," You must see a surgeon and also get a sonogram and a MRI."  Not what I had planned on I have to tell you.  So I go back to work and get busy, because that is what I do in situations like this, get busy and get out of myself.  I will probably be hearing something on this this next week, after all, it was Friday.  So I'll make the appointments with the appropriate people and turn it over.  I can only do the foot work, right?  So what I'm getting at is this, I didn't have to drink or eat over it.  That's the miracle.  I was given a bunch of tools so I don't have to drink, no matter what, and I was given the tool of this surgery so I don't have to kill myself anymore with food.  Oh yeah, and I was given a knowledge of my higher power, who I choose to call God.  This is a tough time, but I will get through it.  And when the squirrel cage in my head starts spinning, I hope I can remember that God is in charge and that he has a plan for me.  Thanks for listening.

Hi Reggie
congratulations for being able to handle this without going back to your old habits.
I am sorry you are going to have to go through this the next few weeks.
I hope they don't find anything wrong.  Just maybe a cyst or something very minor.
Please keep us informed.

I am proud of you that you have been able to get thru this "bump in the road" w/o going back to bad behaviors.....I know it was hard and will be in the days ahead....just know we are all here for you, holding you close and we are praying for you to have a good outcome from the tests.  We can do all things thru Him who gives us the strength.

Sending a big cyber hug,

Reggie, know that God is with you now and always. He will never, ever forsake you. You will be close to my heart and in my deepest prayers. Know that He never gives us more than we can handle together~you and your God together.

Please keep us updated on how things are going. Know that we love you and are here for you and you don't have to go back to where you came from for today. Just one day at a time and like I tell DH and DS~don't borrow trouble. Sometimes it can find you with no help!

Sending love and huge hugs to you, my dear sister.

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
that tells what kind of life you have lived.

Happy "Birthday" Reggie!

Congratulations and thanks for sharing your story with us.  Great motivation for me that if you can endure what you are going through this week without falling off any wagons, then I must strive to do better in my life as well.

Keep us posted on what goes for you.  I hope it helps to at least share the story with us.

Take care of yourself!

Hugs,

Kathi

reggie...first-congratulations on the 26 years!!! i am so in awe of your strength because i grew up in the house of an alcoholic parent...your strength is amazing tho i am sure there were days/moments!!!

your most recent episode (for lack of better term) is one that would send many many of us into a fremzy of food or other consolation and so i am proud of your strengths here as well--and also want to say thank you for bringing this to us...please do keep us informed and know that my prayers are with you no matter the outcome...gentle hugs!!!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

I went through the same thing a few years ago.  They found a lump in my left breast.  I also was frightened and went through more extensive testing.  They determined it was a fibroadenoma (a non-cancerous growth), but I still opted to have it removed.  Most lumps are nothing, so I pray your's isn't also.  Congrats for facing it head on :)  I wish you nothing but the best.
