Rant - Biggest Loser Say What?

Hey Everyone

As most of you know, I am not a professional trainer.  Never advocated to be one and never will be.  That being said I am just like most of you.  Fat my entire life, the most exercise I got was doing the couch shuffle from the couch to the fridge.  Health was in the toilet and I was going to die if I didn't do something.  Had surgery, lost over 200 pounds, kept it off, battled weight gain recently and getting back on track.  The one thing I have experienced and believe is that exercise is the key to losing, keeping it off and getting back on track if  you fall off the wagon.

I watch The Biggest Loser...  I don't think it's real life as anyone working out 6 hours a day and having their food controlled is going to lose.  Now if they really want to have an impact on peoples lives, take it off the ranch baby.  Work with people that are home, working and living life.  Teach and apply what they (The Biggest Loser); advocates in real life and then you will have a GREAT show and more long term winners (losers).

Why am I babbling?  Because last night something was said by both trainers that really made me mad.    If you watch the show you know that Joelle lost zero pounds because she was not working out like her partner.  She tried to make excuses and it was all BS    But when Bob and Gillian said they are tired of all the BS excuses they stated that one they can't stand is "I am not losing on the scale but I am losing inches".  They also said something to the effect it was an excuse for not losing on the scale when putting on muscle and muscle weighs more than fat.

I understand where they were trying to come from, but I so disagree with that statement.  I and many others have not seen that number on the scale move but have lost inches.  NO EXCUSE, it does happen...  there can be a time frame when you are really hitting the weights hard where the scale is not moving, but does that mean you are a failure and should quit?  NO....

Maybe I need professionals to explain this one, but I am so tired of so called "experts" sending out misinformation that leads to us feeling like failures and losers and I don't mean loser in a good way?

What do you think?  Have you experienced lost of inches when the scale is not moving?  When you started hitting the gym hard with weights did  you notice a considerable slow down and or the scale stop moving?

Please don't let a TV show keep you from doing what you know is right!!!  Now where is my tape measure  and weights

Take care,
Kathy

Kathy.....I agree...in my opinion.....that show isn't handling those people in the right way.

Yes...we have all experienced the scale not moving but losing inches. Duh...it doesn't take much of a brain to figure that out.

I am at the point where I have to turn that program off when it gets too intense. Those trainers are so rude sometimes. There is no reason to talk to anyone like they do. Belittling people is never the right way to go!!

Hey Connie,

You look marvelous girl

Wouldn't it ROCK if they could do this where the people live?  Go into their homes and help them in real life, like how to cook for the entire family?  Work out before or after work?

Naw, I guess that would be to boring...

Take care,
Kathy

I agree with you ladies....while the show is interesting to watch, let's face it folks, it's not "real life".....who under ordinary cir****tances could spend the better part of a day exercising....we have jobs, homes, families, and even tho' I am semi-retired, I have to work hard to get in 30 to 45 minutes a day of exercise.

I have read where at least one of their "biggest losers" have regained their weight....it can happen to anyone, we all know that....we are fortunate in that we have a "tool" to work with.....thank God for WLS.   Bob and Jillian both are against WLS or so I've heard.

It takes discipline to lose weight successfully and keep it off even with the tool we ppl have.....it's a life long battle, but man oh man is it worth it!

At nearly age 70, I feel 20 yrs younger and would do this all over again in a heartbeat.   I am healthy and happy - what more could we want?

Well said Connie.

I don't know why the trainers are allowed to be so blatently rude this year.  Even Bob going off on Joelle was shocking and if he were my trainer, I'd have fired him!

Many overweight people have been belittled all their life for their weight and to see the people that are hired to help them do the that is disgraceful.

You can lose inches but not lbs. You can also gain weight but not overeat (ever drink a large glass of water before getting on the scale?).     Overall, I'm pretty disappointed with this year's Biggest Loser.

Things like that are just one of the many reason I can't stand those 'loser' shows. Thay are no help to anyone needing to lose weight, usually just the opposite and the people are treated horribly. I little basic respect and courtesy would go a long way!

For me...no thanks!

I guess I never thougth about that aspect of the show.

I do watch the show and I will have to say watching past seasons of Biggest Loser  and also watching the show Big Medicine gave me the motivation and courage to have my weight loss surgery.
