Should I be on clear fluids 10 days post-op? Since my surgery I have had a lot of water, tea, clear broth, sugar free jello. I have to read over my material...but wondered where others were at in their diet. I am not having any protein at this point? Is that O.K ? So far no poop...is that normal?
I have been reading all this here, but I guess I want to be reassured. Thank You Lola

hi lola....congrats on making it to the losers bench!!!

now....YES you should be on protein!!!! didn't they give you an after surgery list of what to do?? i was using what they gave me (well i had to buy it) also i used sf carnation instant breakfast with ff milk and a scoop of protein powder in it. i have always used ANY WHEY protein powder because it has no taste and you can also use it in cooking and it doesn't clump up.

PLEASE CALL YOUR DR AND ASK WHAT YOU SHOULD BE DOING BEFORE YOU GET YOURSELF SICK AND BACK INTO THE HOSPITAL!!!!

hugs

Every surgeon is different but it seems strange that you are not getting in any protein now. Most all surgeons..... that I know of insist on protein right from the start.
I was on liquids for 2 weeks after surgery. We were told to have 3 Glucose Control High Protein Boost's a day. Protein is very important. We even got them while in the hospital.
You need to contact your surgeons office right away. This dooesn't seem right to me!!
Good luck....let us know how you are doing and what your surgeon had to say.

Hugs....connie d

Hi there lola,
I agree with everyone on the protein, you need it.  The thing that really worries me too is the fact that you haven't pooped in 10 days?  I do think you need to mention this also to your surgeon's office.

WOW! Surely the DR/nutrionist met with you and gave you sheets of info to follow? I got all of my info like 2 weeks before surgery (at PATs) and then the nutrionist and nurses went over all of it again before they released me after WLS.

I agree with everyone that you need to contact your surgeon's office and ask them about the protein and also about the constipation problem.  I had to start taking stood softeners to get me going again.

Take care.
