Home from Hosp.
Don't know if I've been missed or not but have been in the hospital since Sunday and got home today (Friday) around 2 PM. Kidney stones and our one and only Urologist was out of town and was not due to be bac****il Wednesday so my PCP opted to admit me to the hospital and keep me "doped" up on pain meds until the Uro-man was back. Well the Uro didn't get bac****il Thursday. So Thursday nite they took me to OR where I had a stent put in my right ureter. I have 3 more stones in my kidney and the 4th one had tried to "escape" but the path wasn't large enough, thus causing me severe pain. YUCK!! I am scheduled for lithotrypsy Feb. 11th when the machine comes up from a larger hospital down on a truck. I wish now that I would have had my husband drive me to THAT hospital Sunday night and I would have been all done with all this crap by now. I am very tired, annoyed and emotional right now. I also weighed almost 20 pounds more when I left the hospital than when I went in. Can having IV fluids for 5 straight days make one gain that much?????? What a bummer week.

I must add that this was not WLS related at all. This is my third bout with kidney stones in the last 10 years. One month before my RNY, I was having some symptoms and went to see my PCP and he sent me for a Ct scan which showed these 4 stones in my right kidney. I don't want a newbie reading my post and getting scared that WLS causes kidney stones

Jeepers Sandy! What a week! Sure hope you get feeling better soon! That machine that they use, does that somehow bust up the stones so they pass easier? I think I have heard something about it. Keep your chin up! This too shall pass!

if you don't change what you've always done, you're going to keep getting what you've always gotten

Awww Sandy, I'm so sorry that you had to endure this pain. I did miss your sweet self, wondered why you hadn't been posting. You are always there to cheer us all on. I used to work in urology (also gastro, etc) so I know what you are talking about there. I'm sure the IV fluid is the reason for your gain, it will go. So hang in there, wish I had known, we are right here for you.
Big Hugs!

Of course you were missed, Sandy, since we all know when one of the "family" is gone.
I am glad that you are getting the answer and soon getting to the end of the problem. Kidney stones are soooo painful. I had them twice in less than a year apart and the second one I had the trypsy done. It was not bad at all. My urologist said that mine busted up with the first whack and he had never seen that happen before. I now take daily medication that helps keep the stones away. It doesn't make them never come back but he doctor said that if you get them once a year it makes it go to about every 5 years. I told him after 2 bouts with them I would take anything. One doctor told me that the down side was you have to take the medication for the rest of your life and I told him that was a small price to pay for them to go away for a while. I guess you could tell that he never had them!!!!!!!!!!
