I googled it just for the fun of it.  It costs $75.00 a mo. to be on the bio identicals.  I don't have that kind of money, and don't have a lot of faith in them either.  There was quite a mixed opinion on them on google and yahoo.

I have been on bio-identical hormones for 4 or 5 years.  (I'm 56)  I had a total hysterectomy 15 years ago and was on premarin for all those years.  I wanted OFF but suffered so much from hot flashes, etc. when I tried to stop them!

So, I found an anti-aging Dr. in Minneapolis and after a thorough physical and bloodwork, he put me on progesterone tablets, estrogen cream and testosterone cream, along with some other vitamins, etc.   The results are amazing.  I had more energy, started sleeping better, no more dry skin, no brain fog (or at least no more than is natural at my age!!)

It really is astonishing how much better I feel.  I go see him every 6 months to have blood work done to make sure I stay within good levels for everything.   I have so much respect for this Dr.  He used to be an oncologist and a Chief of Medicine and has tons of credentials.  He chose to leave his other traditional profession to try and PREVENT cancer, etc. rather than treating it after the fact.  He's written a book on breast cancer prevention and is mentioned in Suzanne Somers latest book, etc.

I am definitely a fan of bio-identical hormones.  There is a lot of research out there, so you have to do what is best for you and for your body.

Good luck!

Throw some names around, HIs, the products.

I read a fascinating little booklet on the subject. It was how the FDA took this stuff off the market a few years ago. They made it illegal to own them. Um, technically, they can't do that. It's not a drug. We produce them every day. Pregnant women produce 1000x what anyone else does. So, we're all illegal for producing them in our bodies, just so you know.

One of the top mfrs had to BURN, yes, with witnesses, over $2 million dollars worth of these that were ready to market.

Amazing. Sadly, I have in paper form, not a link.

I believe he mentions Premarin (what I take, ditto your story) as one of the drug mfrs behind this whole thing. Because the BI worked so well with no side effects, they were made to vanish.

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

Some pharmacies will compound the bioidentical hormones. I don't take them as my anit-aging doctor felt that I was better off without them at this point. she does use them quite a lot. I know what is recommended by your doctor varies depending on their beliefs. This doctor was a usual GYN doctor and got tired of not being able to spend the amount of time she felt she should with patients. She know does not take any insurance (yikes) and only deals with women's health. Particularly mid-life nice way to say around menopause. My insurance will reimburse me partly and I feel she is so helpful it is worth the expense.
