I just spoke to Carla, She is at the hospital waiting to be admitted for 24 hour observation. She is dehydrated. She said her Doctor doesn't think this is because of the radiation but because she has had gastric bypass surgery her body is handling all this differently and that she is run down due to the loss of her Thyroid.

I just spoke with Carla. She sounded so tired and weak. She had to be stuck 12 times to get her IV in. But, she wants me to give our surgeon a message tomorrow and I will, just for her. She's so sweet, just the best. I let her know that we are all missing her and sending her thoughts, love and prayers.

funny thing- i spoke with her this afternoon and she actually sounded much better than i expected!
i think this hospital observation is a good thing for her right now-they can fill her up with a few bags of liquid that she isn't tolerating well otherwise...
and i have to say, paulette, if i hadn't had wls i might be afraid by what you said about her wls being the reason for this reaction....many ppl who have not had surgery are quick to point out the negatives- not saying you are --however--- i do believe that she is probly dehydrating faster than someone who has not had surgery...yes she is run down and yes her body -a post wls body-- is handling it differently--i guess my concern is for those who have NOT had surgery to read how you said this...jmho--don;t be angry with me!
oh-she rubbed in her sunshine that she has to shovel!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Oh I hope no one misunderstood me. I wouldn't want this situation to influence someone against wls when it is probably just a situation for Carla and not wls patients in general. I was just relaying what Carla said. I agree with you. I the dehydration was because she wasn't able to drink as much fluid as someone who hadn't had wls or maybe since she had been having bouts of dry heaves that complicated the liquid issue for her.
